Alice Cooper had a great story about Mae West. While filming the movie Sextette she made a pass at him which he declined. He had either recently gotten married or was dating his soon to be wife. He mentioned this to Ringo Starr who said she also made a pass at him which he declined. Another actor mentioned she hit on him and he declined. They asked Keith Moon if she hit on him and he said she did but wouldn't say if he declined. They pressed and he said "well...it was Mae West."

I worked for Miss West from 1977 till her death. Frequently to intersede between she and her needy sister, Beverly. One day we got Miss West ready for an evening with a date with Ed Fury. Paul (Charles) was no where to be found for a few days. She had 'wings' from the 1930s that were like the gum on envelopes, stuck her skin and pulled back for a face lift, the elastic hidden by hair and wigs. We got rushed out of her apartment and didn't get to see Fury arrive. Early in the morning when we retired Miss West was lopsided, wigs having off to the side of her head, lipstick was now face stick and the elastic hanging from the 'wings' stickers. She was in her robe. Whatever happened that night she was in heaven and glowing. Mind you, she was in her 80s at the time.

Good question I don’t think it either disgusted or intrigued me but I certainly wasn’t aware of that when I first met them and it was only later, after we’d split, that I became aware of it when I saw how they acted. I'm not sure if people are saying this to be judgemental or not, but you do realize that at THAT point in time women had very few options. What do you think pushes women into prostitution? Women were called whores if they actually liked sex, and marginalized if they wanted anything but to be the sex servant of a man, I mean 'housewife'. It may not be sexual but there are LOTS of jobs where men are belittled and ridiculed and yet will tolerate it. If you saw the doc on the making of Pretty Woman, it was all about the writers experience in Hollywood with the prostitutes there, most of them were from the midwest who had fled crumbling families because entire industries had been destroyed. In Brazil two decades ago, international speculators made a run on their currency which wiped out what remained of the middle class, sending thousands of girls into prostitution. Its called 'survival'.

Right!? This shit is a damned trip! Lol! I love some gossip, hence me clicking on this video, but gawd-mu'fkin-damn! This is not just sexist, (I don't throw that word around often nor easily) but some hardcore slut shaming...like on crack! Lol. Do we ever see videos abt men like this? I'm not so sure. I feel like anytime we see men, regardless of era, and their sexuality is discussed, completely different verbiage is used! They aren't portrayed as gigolos or playboys, mos def not spoken abt like they are some type of hoe. It's more along the lines of "Hot take, fresh off the press! Generous family man and Ad Executive, that attention grabber loved by the ladies, Don Draper a real modern day Casanova, was seen earlier today, taking a stroll in Central Park, and shopping at Bergdorf in swanky Manhattan !! Swooning women blushed and giggled as he walked by, certainly wondering what we all were. Was he shopping for Betty, maybe one of his rich and famous clientele, Rachel Menken we're looking at you, or possibly one of the foxy haired lovelies at Sterling Cooper?" Yet when it comes to women, we're used goods with no accomplishments, troublemakers that have had sex with too many men, all three of them, complained abt a man, the "treatment" by him that ended with us in a police station or hospital, or gotten "in trouble by a man" that ended either with adoption, abortion, or marriage. I meannn! Who cld possibly imagine us lowly bitches doing anything that didn't revolve around a man!? Shiiiit, this comment is even abt what...a man!? Lmao! And look, I love men, all types of men. I just dislike the way women are perceived for doing and saying the same as men. The little value placed on us, teaching "us" to so often place little value on ourselves. Fighting for a truly authentic voice can often take worrrrk and that authenticity can be and mean anything! Having and enjoying sex is friggin' awesome. It's nothing to be ashamed of yet in 2022!!!! that's still being peddled. This video is just one of a million antiquated examples. p.s.s. I'm sorry for the seemingly "I hate men" rant and for the length of it. Thx for reading this far if you did!!😁🎄

Bear in mind that in the 20th century, being beautiful could be a curse for a young woman. I've researched the lives of [literally] hundreds of 20th Century models and beauty queens, many who went on to become actresses. Most never climbed above bit parts and b movies, some achieved brief success and a very small number became 'A' listers. At least 70% experienced lives that were filled with failed marriages, a string of toxic affairs, alcohol and/or drug abuse, depression and suicide attempts [indeed the number who succeeded is frightening] The common thread they all share is their beauty. In many cases it became their curse as they often became viewed as little more than a sex toy by the powerful men involved in their careers. Many were raped or violently sexually abused, a few by relatives before they achieved their careers. Some would claim in memoirs that in their time in movies [be it, Holywood, Europe or Bollywood] they were treated as, and often felt like a prostitute. One actress whose minor career was in 50s B movies would later say she stopped wearing underwear when visiting movie men about parts because sex was a given just to get a screen test. Those who seemingly went on to have successful lives also had similar traits. They often married quite young and often married wealthy powerful men who kept a reasonably low profile and weren't known for a playboy lifestyle. Often there would be an age gap of at least a decade. Most of the time they retired from acting or modelling immediately and adopted the role of wife. Another trait was successful actresses who appeared to have one long successful marriage. The number of these men who it's now known were gay is also remarkable and suggests marriages of convenience where the gay man's reputation was preserved while the wedding ring offered her a level of protection from sexual harassment in the industry. It wasn't just women either. Many young heterosexual actors were forced into gay sex situations. While this is mentioned many times in biographies, you'll struggle to find many actors who openly admitted it. All in all, achieving fame for your looks in the 20th Century could very much be a case of 'don't wish too hard for something, cause you might just get it.'
@mikearchibald7442 жыл бұрын
I know many women in their twenties who intentionally gained weight and stopped taking basic care of themselves because of just how bad that constant attention was. Its one thing to get whistles when you are teen, but to constantly live like that must be no picnic. Hyapatia Lee was definitely one of the most beautiful women of hte eighties, she could sing, dance, act, and produce and did porn. She talks about how her stepfather sexually abused her and the priest told her it was her fault because she was so pretty. Random guys think beautiful women must get anything they want, but guys with POWER, have their choice of beautiful women. Its sad how many men have responded to 'metoo' like women are some ADVANTAGED group who are spoiled. In a patriarchal society sex is the ONLY tool that women have. Now women are getting educated and getting careers and metoo is putting men with POWER in a defensive position that is long overdue.
