carmonkey Hmmm, I've noticed back in the day that women and even men had more of this niave innocence about them which you rarely see these days.....instead of acting real during an interview people these days generally act up a storm....you just don't see those quite humble interviews anymore. This is exactly the same thing with sitcoms, back then they were riddled with morals, they felt REAL(also shot in real time vs the stupid movie-like frame rates of today), the characters felt like real people ect ect....These days, you get overly sarcastic, plastic, phony and over the top put on performances that leave you feeling empty. :P I miss Facts of life, punky Brewster, full house, whos the boss, growing pains ect ect

The biggest shame is that Brooke didn’t get to star in more bigger roles or romance type movies after Blue Lagoon, the other movie that Brooke was supposedly famous for was Endless Love but I personally find it to be very boring and the plot lacklustre and strange, even with Brooke being in it, its one of the most boring movies I’ve seen, and after that she starred in a few movies that ended up being flops like Sahara and Brenda Starr and the rest were lacklustre films where she were just a side/minor/background character, so much has been wasted on Brooke’s talent and beauty.. I kinda wished they had made her the female lead in some of the 80s/early 90s memorable movies such as Dirty Dancing, Mannequin, Pretty Woman (Tom Hank’s) Big, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Top Gun, Back to the Future, Weird Science, Just one of the Guys, When Harry Met Sally etc. I know some of these movies, maybe Brooke wouldn’t have fit the role or image that the film wanted their females lead to portray, but some of these films Brooke would’ve been amazing in, but saying that I don’t wish the original female leads of these films to be replaced by anyone else, cause they’re perfect as they are, but in an alternate world, I definitely wouldn’t have mind seeing Brooke being starred in these films instead, would’ve been so much more interesting seeing her in more films as successful as these, it’s kinda hard now to just rewatch Blue Lagoon on repeat just to see Brooke Shields in her prime 😅😅

Endless Love would’ve gotten a better reception had it stayed more true to the book. But I agree. I don’t know why Brooke didn’t get more roles. I think producers just didn’t see her as a great actor. She wasn’t a BAD actor. Not at all. She could act. Her small role in Friends showed she even had good comedic timing. She even had a pretty big role recently in Law and Order SVU where she definitely showed some powerful acting. And Endless Love showed she definitely had some range. Maybe she needed MORE training. Maybe go to acting school, maybe dabble in theatre early on, to hone her skills, and maybe she would’ve nailed more auditions. Also, one thing most people don’t know is, when actors START OUT BIG, especially those without training, it makes it more difficult to land roles in the future. A lot of great actors now, started off going to acting school first, and doing very SMALL roles, and worked their way up. For some reason, it’s way more difficult to get better roles as time goes on, when you get those larger roles at a young age. Brooke started off with some big leading roles by well known studios, and I think that hurt her. Very rarely do actors without any long term training, get great roles as they get older. DiCaprio, Natalie Portman, and Ryan Gosling are very very rare cases of actors getting pretty big opportunities as kids/teens, without any acting training at an acting school of some sort...and ended up having stellar acting careers. Brooke just didn’t get lucky with that. If you ask me, Brooke should’ve never went to Princeton where she was a regular college student for a few years. She could’ve used that time to maybe study acting, train, or go to countless auditions to get her name MORE out there with agents and producers, thus increasing her chances of getting more shots at films. Leo DiCaprio didn’t have any acting school training, but he went to over 100 auditions at some point as a teen, before someone noticed him and getting his big break in some tv shows, and his career took off from there after more auditions, where he was eventually picked by Robert DeNiro himself to star in a a film with him. A lot times, that’s all you have to do. Audition A LOT, and if you have a good natural talent like what Brooke definitely had as a child/teen, someone will be bound to give you a great opportunity in a film, and more opportunities can arise after that. She had the face, and she had a good FOUNDATION of acting skills as seen in Pretty Baby, Blue Lagoon, and Endless Love. But I guess, if you ask me, she just didn’t TRY hard enough to get roles. I don’t want to sound mean, and I’m not accusing her, but it’s a POSSIBILITY that maybe she believed she would automatically get good roles, because she was so popular and had already done quite a few films when she was a kid. I think maybe she thought better roles would fall on her lap as she got older, given her status. Probably because of that, she didn’t try hard enough, and wasn’t HEADSTRONG enough in auditioning. But that’s just a wild guess in my part. A lot of great actors still audition. Brie Larson herself said she’s been rejected many times after auditioning, and she’s an Oscar winner. I would’ve LOVED to see Brooke star in more popular films when she was younger. That beauty and talent shouldn’t been onscreen more. 😔

Even though Brooke went through sexual exploitation at a vulnerable age, I'm stunned it didn't affect her, but then again, she doesn't let it, which shows just how strong-minded she has always been. She was able to separate her professional life and personal life. One of a few to say that I'm just playing a character that is not like me in anyway, I'm just a normal teenager who goes through the trials of puberty. Today, you would not be able to get away with what they were doing in 1980, and I wish that we had more women her age then that would say enough is enough and have a level head. Not to cave in on the sexual prowess or exploitation like most former child stars have.
