Classic Match! Rangers 4-3 Hearts (24/11/1996)

We go to the 1996 League Cup Final for this Classic Match! A Paul Gascoigne inspired Rangers defeated Heart of Midlothian 4-3 at Celtic Park.
Two goals from Ally McCoist in the first 27 minutes put Rangers firmly in the driving seat in this cup final. Hearts fought back though, as Stevie Fulton drove one in right on the cusp of half-time. 15 minutes into the second-half and Hearts were level, the sensational Neil McCann squared for John Robertson to tap in and send the maroon masses wild. But in the space of a few minutes, their league cup dream was all but over.
On 64 minutes Paul Gascoigne burst into his finest form, and the legendary English midfielder scored two great goals in the blink of an eye. Rangers would hold onto that 2-goal lead until the 88th-minute when Davie Weir got one back for his side, but it was too little too late and the Gers would see the game out and lift the trophy.

@@andym28 I was at the game and McCann 100% deserved man of the match. He ran Rangers ragged for most of the game and they just couldn't deal with him. Sure, Gazza scored 2 brilliant goals, but he was kept quiet for the majority of the game. Hearts dominated a lot of the game with McCann and Cameron on the wings tearing Rangers to shreds. Hearts were a little sloppy at the back for Coisty's goals and they just lacked that little bit on the finishing side, whereas Rangers didn't. Either way, still one of the best games of fitba' I've ever scene. And even as a Jambo, who had to sit in the Rangers end, it was great to watch Gazza play.

CB 454 mine too... I was lucky enough to see him when he played for Newcastle, he's a cracking player and a judging from the documentaries etc that I've seen he's a cracking bloke the best player of his era imo..
