Great video as always, Pierre! Loss of oil pressure is brutal. Not in my C140 but I had the nut back off the oil pump in my E34 M5 at 120 on i95. The car has no pressure gauge so it flashed low pressure and I immediately killed it and coasted down, but that 2-3 seconds was enough to trash my bearings, scored cam lobes, etc. luckily my low oil pressure in my C140 was a bad switch (M119.980 car) and cam oilers.

I have heard of situations where oil filter housing cap not being properly secured due to stud having backed out. Something to be aware of when you do an oil change.

Hi Pierre. Thanks for the video. I guess oil dilution from leaky injectors or injection pump could also cause low oil pressure too? As oil if effectively a lot thinner. Cheers John 🍻

if it viscosity is significantly lower because of the severity of fuel contamination, it could lower the pressure, as the flow around the bearing will increase, lowering the pressure. But by then you will have other problems as well like film pressure issues at the bearings and even more likely bore wash.

I have 1 bar oil pressure in my '87 560SEL sometimes. One reason is the car has 300,000 miles on it. Second reason is perhaps too light an oil viscosity in a Las Vegas summer where the high today was 114F. I could actually have a problem as well but I think I'll change the oil first.

MB considers around 0.5 bar or above at idle normal, and 3 bar by 1500 rpm.

Not all older Mercedes have the oil cooler in them. If you have one that does, you can simply delete it completely, & install blanking plugs where the oil cooler fittings are. I replaced a few engines in Mercedes cars, & did this conversion. It does not hurt the engine at all. The engine in my car came from one that had an oil cooler. I fitted the blanking plugs from the old engine. No trouble with the engine at all.

I'd think an oil cooler would still be helpful in areas such as Arizona, when our summer highs get to 115°F/46C.

@@azmike3572 46°C here in my area is normal. We often have temps nearing 50°C in our summer, & I'm not in the US. I live in regional South Australia. My car has no oil cooler, yet it doesn't overheat in summer here.

1973 220D (series 1) OM615.912 I’ve got weird a case of no oil pressure for about 5-10 seconds upon first startup after sitting overnight and constant max oil pressure at all engine speeds (and temperatures) including idol. Maybe it’s a pressure relief valve being stuck open or closed? Been this way for my entire ownership of about 20k miles. I’ve stopped worrying about it but it definitely is unnerving waiting for the oil pressure to jump to 45psi when I start it up in the morning.
