am I the only person that prefers the standard tuning? it sounds alot puncher and has alot more attack and sharpness than drop tuning in my opinion. dropping the tuning just makes sounds so weak, it lacks the same power and energy that the higher tunings have

David Lofthouse unless we’re talking about the standard tuning of 7+ strings and baritone guitars. They probably stil have a lot of punch with their naturally low tuning.

@@nuclearllama7239 i think D standard still has plenty punch and power, but that's the lowest i'd say you can go and still retain enough attack for it to work proper.

+Troy Greyham I'll be 19 this December, just to show that young people still like the old stuff, but I like Metallica, Megadeth, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Rolling Sones, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Queen, Judast Priest, Pink Floyd, and many others if I sat here and think of it. But, I also like some modern stuff such as Bullet For My Valentine, Asking Alexandria, Avenged Sevenfold, Machine Head, Slipknot, Stone Sour, Five Finger Death Punch, Disturbed, some Pantera, Seether, Tool, Trivium, and a few others. But Metallica is my 100% favorite

Connor Hill I was never saying that rick Allen was bad at all and he is extremely good at drumming for having one arm and you brought him up for no reason but I am saying in my previous comment that it took me a couple of weeks to learn how to double kick on one single peddle and it allows me to do more complicated kick and high hat patterns. I tried the double peddle and all it did was restrict me to using less complicated high hat patterns especially if I wanted to double kick while playing a complicated high hat pattern.

Just because Djent has simple breakdowns doesn't mean that the guitarist can't play. Djent actually has some great and complicated riffs while Classic Metal bands like Judas priest and other bands have literally the simplest of riffs (Not all Classic bands mind you). The guitarists from Meshuggah are the most skilled when it comes to advanced Polyrythms. Plus a lot of people think that Djent is another sub-genre of Progressive Metal and if you've never heard Animals as leaders, you can't tell them that their bad.

Since the distortion is higher in the modern, the structure of the harmony must be simpler (usualy, without thirds. Otherwise it could becoume a timbristic hell, and more noisy than it aready is). So yes, the classic timbristic caracteristics can hold more notes in both a vertical (harmonic) and in a horizontal (melodic)

@MatEnAlks 9 жыл бұрын
Screaming is a technique that was set in classic metal. All the thrash bands, especially Slayer and bands that were inspired by Slayer so for example Death, which is already death metal. Voivod with Rrröööaaarrr also comes to mind. But I get what you're saying. Nowadays screaming is completely warped and has nothing to do with old school slightly guttural screaming that still had a lot of natural voice involved. Today it's more like failed growl, very unpleasant to listen to.

I love modern metal, but I definitely miss the cleaner, high end of the fret and piercing solos that the classic metal was littered with.

Idk. I'm not even technically a metal fan, yet I think the classic metal sounds like it takes more skill, is smoother and sounds more like guitar than some demon shitting out its bowels whilst growling in agony like the modern stuff does.

I find a lot of modern metal mostly just sounds like the same super-low growling muddy guitar with over-drummed backing. Infact, I feel sorry for bass players these days... what purpose do they even serve? Next to none. They're completely lost in a thick, muddy soup of Dropped tuning chug and double kick drums. Yes, dropped tuning sounds aggressive and heavy but you can't hear the individual parts that well... they're all so low pitched that they blend together (and not in a good way).

Honestly, I think the muddiness just kills how heavy a song feels. Stuff like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest still feels a lot heavier than most modern metal for that very reason.

Most classic metal just use the same overused pentatonic licks to make a solo and call it a day

+ACEGaming 1. Using an abbreviation for "emotional" as a negative word. 2. Insulting people of a different sexuality by using the sexuality itself as an insult. 3. Judging someone by their hair color. I rate this comment extremely ignorant / 10, sorry, you fail.
