Thanks for the comments and good luck with the clubman. I had a 1275 GT back in the day...and would love to get my hands on another, but I'm sure I can't find one for £500 which is what I sold mine for...

Hi yes that’s my plan where I can fettle the original it stays I’ll only replace where necessary.
