Hi Paul, So on my DAM5626 gearbox should I be installing a gasket with a DAM4970 diff cover? I read somewhere that the factory quit using the gaskets on later gearboxes.

What do you think of fitting a pinion support from KAD/MED instead of using the 3 bolt case?

It cant harm, but doesn't really solve the problem that the 3 bolt casing dose. But Im sure it would help.

@@HREIRL I’m using remote casings so it’s my only option to put big power through. If it prevents the pinion riding up the final drive gear then it should hopefully reduce stress in the web.

You mentioned sand blasting the gearbox casing, ive heard that any grit can remain inside (trapped in the surface of the casting) and then comes lose when the oil is flowing around, and then goes through the engine. Whats your thoughts on this?

Hi Paul, had a thought. When you've milled the diff cover so that you can line bore it, is there any issue with the side cover bolt holes misaligning, as in theory, you've reduced the distance between the two sides? All the best, Paul.

Gomer, I don't intend on running a gasket on this box so, if I machine the housings with out it, and only use RTV for the rebuild I will know the tolerances will be in-spec. If I intended running a gasket I would have to fit the gasket before machining

Amazing video as always. We would be interested for a set of Allen head stainless steel a2 70 bolts for the complete engine. Also we would welcome the dimensions of those bolts and complete specifications as we have access to industry suppliers in Greece. 0:41 Why not leave out the 4th bolt? or is that bridge section on the new Rover casing stronger? Postie has just delivered my HRE merch i ordered :-)

The hole for the 4th bolt is the weak part, not the bolt itself. Leaving out the bolt still means the bolt hole remains.

@@paulrobinson3528 I wondered the same thing! Perhaps they also made wider webbing in the upgrade as you say? Or perhaps the heat of welding would distort the dimensions and require correcting? I'll leave the answers to those who know more than me! (The author of this channel perhaps...)

As Simon, said Paul leaving the bolt out still leaves the weekness of the hole which is where the cracks form in the centre web. I believe back in the day company's used to weld it and also weld in a strengthening rib but the rover boxes have the rib built in and the bolt hole omitted so its just the right case to chose
