Every time Dave does one of these videos I think “ok, time to have a go and buy a project bike to restore “… then he starts talking about the jobs each of bikes need and i realize how much i still need to learn and will never manage to. So I will follow his advice and stick to my Royal Enfield Meteor 350. Thanks for the fantastic content.

That’s funny Rod, classics are full of ups and downs but it’s also nice when you crack it

Yes we all get that feeling but the feeling after you have fully built an engine and it starts and sounds great after the first few kicks is all worth the long hours and many cups of tea! yes as us shed dwellers do :) go fôr it and its a great Learning curve!

Yes, I really like that new Royal Enfield bronze-chrome Classic 350 Dave is riding which shares the same engine with your Meteor....I'm a newer rider and I'm not sure if I should just get the Classic 350 or save up for the Interceptor 650. My current bike is a 150 so either should be an improvement and I'm probably overthinking it.

Correct on the expense. I've have a few Harley's over the years. Had been wanting a Brit bike. So I found local - a TR25/B25 - rebuilt TR engine - spare engine several other bits. So shopping for parts just to get a rolling chassis is a chore. But I believe the learning experience is greatly enhanced doing it like this. Plus I can piece it as money will allow. Since the TR25 - BSA 25 & BSA 441 all use the same frame. This will likely have parts from all 3. Plan on running the 250 to work out the bugs then upgrade to the 441 engine at a later date. Keep up the good work. I really enjoy ur videos. Cheers !!!

Dave knows his stuff. The theme of this video, "vintage bikes are great...but they're kind of a pain in the ass so maybe just get one of these new Royal Enfields and save yourself the money and trouble." : ) I wouldn't mind adding one of those to my garage.

I think the Cub was a great little learner bike in the sixties. they retained that typical triumph look but in a smaller scale.

I agree Tiger cubs are as much work, if not more than bigger bikes, I've had two over the years. having said that my first bike was a 1968 Bantam cub and I was so excited to get it, it seemed big at the time! Really enjoy the videos, thanks

Thanks Dave for your videos learnt a lot, but one thing I would like to ask is Triumph T120 1969 Tr6r standard pistons going good no smoke, hear is the question STARTING choke was removed from the carb, not by me..Would it start easier in cold weather with the choke back in the carb before I buy a new one. Holding the throttle till it warms is not a good look for me with the nabours, compression is good but still takes a bit of kicking to start in the cold weather......

My word that Goldie is a beautiful bike. I prefer the early fifties models to the later swingarm jobs.

I appreciate the sidenote about the new Royal Enfield Classic 350. As newer rider I've had my eye on a Classic 350 in the same bronze & chrome color as well as an Interceptor 650, kind of depending on what I can afford.

Hello David I want to know your opinion about the BSA A7 shooting Star motorcycle, and compared with a Triumph Tiger 100 or Tiger 110 ? thanks, best regards, Miguel of Uruguay.

Great video as always Dave, good to see you back in the workshop and great to see the Scott is on the way - I'm not a Tiger Cub aficionado so I don't know if this is possible, but had you considered trying a compression plate under the barrel to lower the compression on the Tiger Cub ? (as used on the WW2 WDG3L) - That way you can adjust the compression if you don't get it quite right the first time and you wouldn't be thinning the piston crown by machining it.

Hey JJ Rider 67, thanks for your nice comments. Alex here, Dave does check the comments from time to time but I'll direct him towards them to see what he thinks :)
@mikeymike32402 жыл бұрын
As a complete dunce, could you double up on the base gasket to lower compression??? , I’m building up my 1973 Suzuki gt250k, could I double up on the head gasket so I don’t have to machine the the cylinder head to use modern petrol ⛽️. Super video Dave.
@highdownmartin Жыл бұрын
Shims under the barrel lower compression. Technically they also affect the valve timing and mechanical layout of the rockers. But hardy enough to get excited about. That cub needs the clutch sorting, detuning the engine to suit it isn’t the best option
@andyariel3042 жыл бұрын
So many cubs are a mixture of parts, that engine was fitted to ordinary cubs and bantam cubs.that frame is a triumph frame, the bantam frame had more room to get the head off.
@andyariel3042 жыл бұрын
Any spacer under the tiger cub barrel would have to be very thin, maybe an extra gasket. Any more and the pushrod tube will be too short. At some time Triumph fitted shorter head studs to make removing the head a bit easier.
