A small amendment. In the video we refer to Hack Engineering as Hacking Engineering. Should definitely be Hack Engineering, sorry Alex! Here's their website address in case you want to get in touch with Alex and the team www.hackengineering.co.uk

You might be pleased to know that my cousin, Buddy Holley rode a Matchless G12 which is now in the Buddy Holly Museum in Lubbock, Texas.

Always great to get insight into these different engines and makes. Thanks. Assume "wetsumping" is a gravity siphon form the return tank to the lower sump?

Good video, again! I have a 1967 Matchless G12 that I'm trying to get back on the road. You mentioned using a fuel stabiliser to help prevent rusting in the tank; can you give a suggestion as to what kind? Thanks.

Does the advice re rusty fuel tanks apply to modern bikes as well?
@tinymotogarage2 жыл бұрын
A lot of modern bikes have plastic tanks now. However, the fuel can offgas through the plastic (for sure on dirt bikes - I assume on others too), so the fuel degrades over time. I don't know much about stabilizers but if you lay your bike up for a season, I would drain it - but that's me. There are easy syphons if you don't want to tear into hoses.

@@tinymotogarage I don’t completely drain the tank. I drain the bowls. Add fuel stabilizer and run for 10 min. The reason is, is when it’s laid up the moisture in the air will attack the exposed steal. I suppose this may depend on where you live in the world. Also the smaller amount of fuel the easier it is or faster it is to go bad.

Seen some AJS/Matchless with long lever on oil tap ,that purposefully fouls Kick start , some clever one's turn oil on when you kick start others remind you when kick start hits lever ( better than seizing engine ) . I go with the idea that if you let it wet sump you ain't going out on bike enough , my G3 takes quite a while to noticeably wet sump so not bothered tap {I would forget) . Like the g11 think they are great value twins as don't seem to fetch high prices of other twins , why do they have centre main ? is it any more problematic than other twins

Americans have had ethanol for some time now. You only have to look on their motoring sites to see the hell that they have suffered.
@stevem7868-y4l2 жыл бұрын
I have a theory on this "ethanol fuel" that's there's as much ethanol in a gallon of fuel, as there is chicken in a bacon sandwich We the public are being hoodwinked, as that 10% of ethanol, is actually water, hence all the rusting, so we are paying exorbitant prices for fuel, but only getting 90% in the tank,
@tinymotogarage2 жыл бұрын
Water doesn't mix with fuel - the water separates and goes to the bottom - even a small amount will prevent an engine from firing. As an example, this is why GA pilots drain a little from each tap before flight and why avgas is blue - so you can see if it's water or fuel.
