I lived through this era. Best period of hockey ever. Watching, seeing and living with legends like Gretzky, Esposito, Lafleur, the latter years of Gordie Howe and many many more, brings great memories growing up! Best time ever!!
@canuck_gamer3359 Жыл бұрын
Amen pal. People today have no idea what hockey was like back then. It only could have been made better had the Oilers and Islanders had won fewer times. There were so many great teams in those years that never won, the Capitals, Flyers, Habs, Flames and others all would have been worthy champions!

This Hockey night in Canada play by play man is my all time favorite and a pleasure to listen to. I also loved Rick Jeanneret and Harry Neal when they were together in Buffalo. Today the ones on TNT, and ESPN talk too much during play. Call the game man! Stories are for breaks in play and intermission.

All O'Reilly got for punching a ref was a 10 game suspension and a $500.00 dollar fine! With the history O'Reilly had this was a extremely light penalty! but it seems like Commissioners of all sports leagues seem to go light on Boston teams! Boston, "The City of Cheats"!

@canuck_gamer3359 Жыл бұрын
O'Reilly was the Bruin player who I hated the most in my 40 plus years of being a huge fan of the Montreal Canadiens. I was rooting for the Nordiques in this series if you can believe that. O'Reilly was always a meat head and if you can believe this, he was only suspended for 10 games for hitting the referee!!! In today's NHL you would get 30 for fun and if you ever did it again you'd be facing a ban for life. The guy was an absolute meat head, surpassed only by Lucic in the long list of Bruin meatheads lol.

The officials protected Hunter from getting punched by guys larger than him. Van Hellemond had no right swinging O'Reilly around like that, he should have let them go, but Hunter of course was skating away like a coward.

Ovechkin with a wooden stick and a shot 40mph slower? Yeah sure. 🤦🏻♂️
@rushrules81Ай бұрын
@jogendron6320 🤪 so Al MacInnis would have a 150 mph shot if he used a composite? Lol. Much easier to score in the 80s than today, no one debates that. Goalies are all well over 6 ft and cover most of the net now. The 80s had a bunch of Andy Moogs. 5' 7" Goalies who cover 1/3 of the net. Ovi could've netted over 100 in 80s. McDavid would have 250 point seasons. Hockey has progressed thanks to the greats ( Orr, Gretzky, Lemeiux etc...). Other sports like baseball and basketball have regressed, except for the long balls( 3 pointers).
