The black 238 is a fairly scarce version. They made a lot more gunmetal. Not sure you know but I’m pretty sure that is a Macys set, 1936. The 238 with the red 600 series car. It’s a beautiful set when cleaned up,

So, that's how that tool is used! I bought one, and couldn't figure it out! I bought a 249e w/the eunit lever bent back onto the eunit. I think that should be replaced. 😮 😊😊

Very nice! Those older units are so easy to work on, compared to the new stuff, today. That light assembly is strange. I wonder if there was a piece that attached to the base of the bulb, as it would be a pain to solder the wire to the bulb each time that it burned out. Either way, a good tutorial on fixing the problems on older steam locomotives. An excellent video, as always.

Thanks you! You know, I bet you’re right on the light bulb. I’m thinking it had one of those brass bulb screw in sockets with the circular pad/wire contact on the bottom. I’ll have to look into that. Thanks again!

@@modeltrainsolutions7368 You could probably find a screw-in or even a bayonet style one in your parts drawer. I looked at my 221 and 2025 and they have the screw-in style that clips into that front piece. I'm sure that they are quite common.

Where did you get the E unit drum at? Was it a spare part or did you buy it new?
