To me, the late 60s and early 70s was the best music era of my life. Great bands producing great music. Born in 1940 so was a teenager in the 50s and thought that music was great. And it was. The early days of rock ‘n roll. But the late 60s and early 70s surpassed it. Long live Rock ‘N Roll!

By the end of 1969 psychedelic rock and the clubs on Sunset Blvd. (The Strip) was coming to an end, especially after the Manson murders. Even the Hippies disappeared. Anyway, my favorites from 1969 were (not in any order): Baby, It's You, Smith; Bad Moon Rising, CCR; Coming Into Los Angeles, Arlo Guthrie; Easy To Be Hard, Three Dog Night; Fortunate Son, CCR; Get Ready, Rare Earth; Honky Tonk Woman, The Stones; In The Time Of Our Lives, Iron Butterfly; Jumpin' Jack Flash, The Stones; Pinball Wizard, The Who; Proud Mary, CCR; She Came In Through The Bathroom Window, Joe Cocker; Touch Me, The Doors; Try A Little Tenderness, Three Dog Night; Venus, The Shocking Blue; Volunteers, Jefferson Airplane; Well All Right, Blind Faith; Whola Lotta Lovin', Led Zeppelin and Whipping Post, The Allman Brothers. Cruising The Strip, Hollywood Blvd. and Laurel Canyon was coming to an end but we did a lot of concerts from 1968-1972. My first after I turned 18 was Canned Heat and The Vanilla Fudge at The Kaleidoscope Club on Sunset Blvd. We also saw The Doors (2), Three Dog Night (2), Creedence Clearwater Revival (3), Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley (in Vegas) (3), Led Zeppelin (we actually walked out on their concert it was so bad), Smith, Country Joe & The Fish, Johnny Winter, Sly & The Family Stone (2), Iron Butterfly, Tower Of Power, The Shocking Blue, Blues Image, Stevie Wonder, The Guess Who, The Grass Roots, Joe Cocker & The Mad Dogs & Englishmen, Little Richard (3), Chuck Berry (3), Arthur Lee & Love, The Music Machine, The Seeds, Santana, Mountain and others I don't even remember (I guess some of that "natural whacky tobacky" was a little too strong!).
@AllanGonnella4 ай бұрын
At 74 I guess some of that "natural whacky tobacky" is finally wearing off and my memory is coming back. How could I forget? I also saw Hot Tuna and Randy California & Spirit (at The Whiskey) and Linda Ronstadt and Roger McGuinn of the Byrds) at The Roxy on Sunset on Halloween night, I think, in 1973), Edgar Winter, Bo Didley, John Mayall, Sha Na Na, Badfinger, Alice Cooper, The Turtles, War, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Paul Revere & The Raiders and The Four Tops. Concerts back then were around $5 for good seats. Some great days!!!

PUT your comment into the context of Kent State, spring of 1970 when I graduated college.. Things were not rosy and Nixon was lying to us and we dumped Spiro and all that stuff. I was in the first Draft Lotteryt (#317), But compared to the Turdd years, you are quite right with the outright racism and hatreds of all things different. Maybe as of this date in August of 2024, things can shift a bit more toward that compassion and understanding we had hoped for. (I moved to Ecuador and love it here. But most of my friends are still in the US and, in the words of Mr. T., "I pity the fools.") Long Live Rock and Roll. Stay Woke!
