Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall could be seen sometimes at the little store at East Lake Tawakoni in Texas where they owned land. I ran into Dave Mustaine in a liquor store in East Texas once and saw Nancy Wilson in a little red sports car in Dallas in 1985. Her license plate was NANCYW and she knew I recognized her and smiled and waved at me from feet away as we passed by her in traffic. I was thrilled. Heart was recording there. I saw Pantera play that year and my brother-in-law introduced me to Stevie & Jimmie Vaughan.

I remember my cousin said that Savoy Brown and Foghat were playing music that sounded exactly like ZZ Topp.

That Savoy Brown song he mentioned was a cover of the song by The Temptations. More guitar oriented, of course. And yes, I hear the ZZ Top in there with ZZ being the influenced, obviously.

That was great, the Jerry Hall bit cracked me up. Savoy Brown was awesome and he's right, their version is so cool. Glad I got to see them do that one several times when Dave Walker rejoined in the early 90s.

The great shots of Kansas at that Stones show are classic. I read that Steve Walsh ventured to a part of that red stage he was not supposed to occupy but went for it.

ZZ Top, like a lot of Texas artists (Johnny Winter, Steve Miller) got their blues straight from the same source that the British bands did--it wasn't filtered through the Stones, Mayall, Fleetwood Mac, Savoy Brown and other UK bands, they got it straight from the original blues masters themselves. And although they did listen to those British bands, they already knew where it came from. This idea I hear that "White America wouldn't know blues until we Brits introduced it to them" is BULLOCKS!
