Coming up, another great story from an interview I did with one of rock's greatest storytellers. Mr. Randy Bachman from the Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive BTO… This 70s rock hit came when BTO was on tour with the Doobie Brothers. The band was on the road going to a gig when during a traffic jam a truck driver boxed their tour bus in… so a little while later this rock legend confronted the trucker at a rest stop. A brawl was about to go down… from this incident... the trucker said something that would inspire a rock classic. Let it Ride… It became a 70s guitar classic. Get the story from this rocker next on Professor of Rock

I’m excited to bring you another episode from our series Revelations- where featured artists go deep on their greatest songs. This is a Really funny story “So far on this channel, we’ve heard several great stories from Randy Bachman. For my money, Randy is one of the best song-tellers in the whole game. Over the last few months, he’s shared the story of turning an impersonation of his younger brother’s stutter into a #1 rock classic with You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet and then how a pizza guy played piano on a song that he never intended to release with Taking Care of Business which ended up becoming Elvis’s mantra.. the whole reason Randy got into rock in the first place. And then the story of writing These Eyes with Burton Cumming of the Guess Who. That one came while he was waiting for his date to get ready.
Today is an equally entertaining story that came when he was touring with the Doobie Brothers as the instigator of the rock group Bachman Turner OverDrive or BTO… It was from a bout of road rage. He confronted a reckless trucker… He was looking for a fight but instead got a 70s rock classic. He’ll tell you the story up next. Also, the song was something he was strumming at the time. Then he said the Doobies were working on a song at the same time and turns out both bands used the chords but have no idea who came up with them. Both songs became hits. Find what they were next.

What you see here is really Randy Bachman. The kindest man in R&R. I’ve known him since the 70’s and he’s the real deal. The R&R HOF needs to induct both The Guess Who and BTO. And even better if they would do it the same year. Can you imagine one artist being inducted twice on the same night. Wow, needs to happen.

It must have been one of those interviews where even if the house was burning down, you wouldn’t interrupt him. Great episode, it’s always great when Randy”s involved. That just go to show you, as little as you may have thought the pop songs were, they still had deeper meaning to us fans. And now at 61 I'm able to dance and sing to the great music you put out both from The Guess Who and BTO. thank you for that. Professor, I've only just found your channel, but I just have to thank you. Listening to you and honestly feeling ALOT of the same emotions and memories like you do has me remembering some great and almost forgotten times of my life. WOW!! I just don't know how-to thank you enough. Keep up the excellent work

I would love to hear how the song not fragile came about. That song is raw power, and my favorite BTO track. Loved listening to both bands growing up. You Randy are an amazing musician and I'm happy that I grew up in the 70s listening to you. Thanks for all the wonderful memories.

First, the Guess Who just had hit after hit after hit when I was in grade school. Burton's voice is incredible, I'm absolutely awed by the sound. Then at 14 I'm playing rhythm guitar to BTO albums as I learn how to play. So simple but catchy as all get-out. Roll On Down the Highway might be the best song EVER!

Like all other rock bands we'd haul out TCB whenever the occasion seemed right. But after I heard Randy's Takin' Care of Christmas we started singing that version during the holidays. Goes over just fine, even though most folks haven't heard it. I do usually have to explain that it isn't something I made up, but is actually a Randy Bachman song. Fun stuff.
