Classic Southern Potato Salad | How to Make Potato Salad | Recipe

Having 2 parents that were born and raised in South Georgia, and having spent most of my childhood living in the south, I feel like I’ve come to know a thing or two about what makes the perfect Potato Salad. This recipe is the perfect side dish for any cookout or family gathering. When you make it, be ready to become the appointed potato salad maker for every future family function that calls for it!
INGREDIENTS:
**DISCLAIMER:
Remember to adjust seasonings and condiment amounts to your liking! What I have listed below is a rough estimate of the measurements I used b/c as you can see in the video, I didn’t do any exact measuring. What’s most important with this recipe is the method and ingredients used not the actual amounts. The amount of each ingredient is up to you and what you like.
5lb bag of Yukon gold potatoes, diced
6 hard-boiled eggs, diced
1-2 cups of mayo
2-3 tbsp of yellow mustard
2-3 tbsp of sweet salad cubes (+1 tsp of the juice, optional)
2 tbs of salt
1 1/2 tsp of black pepper
2 tsp of garlic powder
1 tsp of onion powder

My favorite part about this video was the Dad at the end. I do the same thing with my Dad. I throw down in the kitchen, and I KNOW it tastes good.... but I'll have him try it and ask "is it missing anything?". I do it to my brothers too. It's never missing anything. I've made potato salad at least 20x before but here I am "studying" making sure I get it just right for a family function tomorrow. Thanks for this video, it made my day. 🙂

I added celery seeds and fresh garden chopped dill and garden parsley and then sprinkled paprika to pretty the top up complete hit even my husband said it was better then his mama’s and dam that was a serious compliment because hers reminded me of my mama’s recipe that I just couldn’t get right but now, May they be resting in peace smiling that I finally made it right thank you.

People seem to treat potato-salad the way people treat meat-loaf; a very good simple recipe is ruined by adding way too many ingredients. Girl does it right here. And like me, pepper is as important as the potatoes ! Beautiful vid. 👍

Jackie Reynolds This is one of those classic dishes that you innocently order in a restaurant and it comes with something the cook (cook, definitely not chef) adds that they think is really cool like pineapple or basil. I hate it when that happens. It makes god unhappy too.

I am the potato salad maker in the family. I add fresh white onion , celery, with, celery seed and no sweet pickles. Other wise I make mine exactly the same . So I was raised in Maryland and this how my mom made it. Being from Maryland depending on my mood I might add a touch of Old Bay.

@@AverysApron Avery you are right I made your potatoes salad for new years and it was so good that everyone that tasted it was saying it tasted just like Ant Puris salad and the was what I wanted. My Ant was the best cook better than Mom and she used to make it all the time so when I saw your video it kinda looked like my Ants and with your father big smile and your awesome personality I was sold on it .
