Actually, the best adventure game to me was Days of the Tentacle, the follow-up to Maniac Mansion. It was intelligent, funny and beautiful too. To me, it is still to this day, the best game of the genre I have played back then.

This talk hasn't aged well. The content is timeless though Google Glasses went out of fashion quickly! :p

Ron Gilbert is the most influencial individual in game development, he's the reason for computer games having reached the status of a competetive, narrative artform, up there with literature and cinematography. He's a true explorer and challenger, leaving slaves of profitmining companies like Miyamoto and Kojima in the darkest shadows. And speaking of Kojima, it makes me so sad how his "slavery" ended. But I truly hope He gains all the success he deserves.

I really wish Ron Gilbert and Tim Schafer can join this panel, i never play Lucast Art earlier games but the Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion era was my childhood.

Excuse me, but who do you think is that man, speaking at 34:00? Sure he lost some weight since I (we?) saw him in that DoubleFine KS video, but never the less, half of your dream is right there :) Anyway, great video - I didn't even notice when that hour went. Kinda sad it's nothing more than _the history_ now. At least I had a chance to play some of their games back in a day and I'm utterly grateful for what they did to my childhood (and my English) ;(

milczyciel Holy shit i didn't notice, he sure look different and i admit i didn't saw the hole video since the first half of the video is about some really old Lucas Art game that i never play. But yeah sorry about that.

disk9434 No need to be sorry mate :) I too didn't recognized him until camera focused on him and Mr. Noah Falstein gave introduction. Glad I piqued your interest in that other half of the video. Cheers :)

Men i really wish Ron make another monkey island game, finish the storry of Guybrush and declare all the sequel after the second game is non canon. Even now the ending of monkey island 2 still run around my head :(
@milczyciel11 жыл бұрын
disk9434 We all do, we all do. And who knows, maybe among all those remakes, Kickstarters and indie games we will see it happening (I don't know Disney's policy that much to make legit assumptions here). This way or another Ron isn't even twice as old as me, so he still has a lot of time to pull that off :)

I'm American and I don't have a Monkey Island tattoo per se, but I do have text tattoo that I had written in the Monkey Island font.

To me it's just perplexing that Sierra's games sold more. Today if you mention point and click adventure games everyone immediately thinks of the Lucas* games.
@SianaGearz9 жыл бұрын
Anders Öhlund Oh but it's obvious. First Sierra title was called "The Softporn Adventure" before the company changed its name, and then when it did, it re-made the game as the original "Leisure Suit Larry", with numerous sequels. Sex sells. IBM commissioned and advertised King's Quest, so perhaps they were lucky. Then perhaps they became more widely known adventure game developer, due to those good sales, and perhaps they chose their genres that they took upon by mass appeal rather than artistic merit, i mean police procedural has to be among the most popular genres on TV, right? There are exceptions of course, Gabriel Knight is a masterpiece.

I think that's cuz I think of the Sierra games as something else, more like an rpg- at least with something like King's Quest.
@thepoppunx6 жыл бұрын
Gilbert xplained that on an other interview ... Sierra was big, and they sell better in usa, but at the end the Lucas art adventures cach up sierra and sell better...

Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Monkey Island 1 and 2, Loom, Sam & Max, Maniac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle, all were classics, but Sierra was more famous despite their games being shit (just my opinion) Though my favourite P&C adcventures were Lure of the Temptress and Universe (spiritual succesor to Curse of Enchantia)
