Every morning at 8:00. I loved the Captain, Mr. Green jeans and Bunny Rabbit. Now I appreciate the fact that he introduced me to many wonderful children's books, simply read w/o any bells and whistles, just storybook read to the kids watching. I miss him.

I was born in 1956 and grew up on watching Captain Kangaroo every weekday morning. I suppose it would seem old fashioned by today's standards or even by the standards in the 1970's but it was a great show for small children. My favorites were Bunny Rabbit and Mr. Moose and Grandfather Clock.

I was born in 59. I watched him and Romper Room in the 60s and into the early 70s even, just because I loved it. I think kids would be a lot calmer today with a little more Captain Kangaroo and Romper Room and a little less high tech garbage is on now.

Watching this is like......well a slice of emotional therapy. So much childhood warmth and innocence flows through me looking at this wonderful funny looking man and listening to this theme music; and having him sweetly interact with Mr. Green Jeans and the Moose and the Grandfather Clock. I really believe these images in the formative years of childhood molds such a beautiful and durable development of children....I know we can't go back but I really wish we could recreate this level of clarity and simplicity again for our children.

@@lindacreesy3909 I agree.cbs killed it while adults who were children at one time now grown up with probably kids of their own that watched it too kept it alive because we loved it.i watched it as a kid in the m8d to late 70's at least and loved watching it even skipped school several times to watch it ,never liked school didn't care for it but captain kangaroo I cared deeply for.and CBS dropped the ball didn't care or want it anymore wanted to be like the other networks at having mourning shows of their own to get viewers and fat ratings,oh no they didn't give a crap about the true feelings of captain kangaroo fans.i can imagine how it felt when the last episode was shown all of the heartbreak and pain that happen and still are going through.for me unfortunately I was done with high school in 1991 and could not find captain kangaroo anymore and to be honest with you it really sucked I was grown up but I still cared greatly for that show as I still today.on youtube I had saw a couple of the episodes of captain kangaroo on it and I felt like a little kid taking a trip down memory lane with captain kangaroo and with other kids and even other people who were kids at one time who saw this show and to think CBS dumped this show for mourning shows and other garbage we don't watch!!!!!I mean really ?!these networks don't get it!they don't even play cartoons on Saturday mornings anymore for goodness sakes!I haven't even watched any tv on these networks for years that's how bad they all have gotten.we are better off watching dvds, youtube and even reading a book!even going for a walk to a store would be better than having to suffer through the junk they have on tv today.my point is CBS hurt all of the fans of captain kangaroo when they dumped it along with the cast of captain kangaroo and the captain himself and you can see there will never be a kiss and make up moment ever ,it's done and finish.and we all in return will hurt CBS by not watching anything they have on their networks anymore.i don't know how much of a hurting we may have been putting on them for they still have many viewers watching but we still may have been putting a big dent in their ratings and making them suffer just like they did to all of us.im thinking if captain kangaroo and the others were still here to see how bad all of the networks have gotten today I feel they would all be shaken their heads in total disgust and probably sadly crying and that to me is one of the saddest things that could ever happen to anyone like that.the networks had ruin everything with the junk they have on today and are doing a lot ruining of people in the process, changing them and they don't care .all they want is for us to watch the garbage they keep playing that is no good and ratings if that's the way it's going to be I will be no part of it,I will go to youtube and find episodes of shows of the past that I saw and watched them including captain kangaroo after all we all grow up but the kid in us all never does and I'm grateful and glad for that.

Good morning to you Captain. I remember this opening scene very well growing up in the 60"s and 70"s. I always watched the Captain before going to school and no one can replace the real captain Kangaroo. I believe at times the captain would try to hand the keys up in the treasure house during the opening and they would fall and the opening music would not turn off? Little things like this along with trying to wake up Grandfather clock really gave the captains audience a since of being there.

Captain Kangaroo ran on CBS on weekday mornings until the mid-1970s, I believe, and they moved him to Saturdays. He left the air for a couple of years, but PBS brought him back for a few more years in the early 1980s. I watched the Captain in the early 1960s when I was a pre-schooler and loved his show. When he died, I'm not ashamed to say that I actually shed a tear. He was a part of my childhood that will never be forgotten.

A time when people told you to be good and kind to people you meet and to remember your prayers. A time when television was clean and there were such things as "bad words" and manners and being respectful to adults and people with authority, with "Yes Sir" and "No Mam". When you pledged allegiance to the flag and it was ok to pray in school. When being an American meant something. Yeah its only a memory now. I SAW that world and lived in for as long as it lasted. Then it went away. If you want to see it today you have to watch the old LEAVE IT TO BEAVER shows and CAPTAIN KANGAROO from the late 50's and early 60's.

+calvin777100 Even though I did not live through the 1950s and 1960s (I am 22 years old right now), I agree with almost everything you had to say in this comment. I have always felt I would be better suited to live in the 1950s, 1960s, or even the 1920s, for that matter. With a few exceptions, I can't even begin to relate to people in today's world. I would give ANYTHING to go back to one of the aforementioned time periods. I am miserable in today's world. In regard to what you said about respect, it seems like nearly everyone is just mean and nasty to each other nowadays, but that wasn't always the case. And I will add that the VAST MAJORITY of music and art I like is from the 1950s and 60s, and in some cases earlier than that.

Yeah, the 1950's - 1960's were great for heterosexual White men. For everyone else, not so much. It's still okay to pray in school. No one ever stopped that. The teachers just cannot lead the prayers. If you can't pray without having someone lead you, then you may not understand Jesus or His commandments.

My uncles were heterosexual white men and times weren't so great for THEM. Reckon why? So called white privilege did not trickle down to them. And a great many more white men. If not in exactly the 'same boat' as other minorities, they were at least in the twin boat.

The junk on tv is ruining everything and everyone including the kids.i believe we could complain to the tv networks all day long about the trash they are showing on tv today and the effects it's having.those people don't care about anything or anyone they only care about money ,power and big fat ratings.i wasn't around when lassie or howdy doodle or even kukla,Fran and olie came on in the 50s or 60s but I grew up watching a lot of good shows even reruns of shows that were not on anymore but being shown in reruns only.cartoons on Saturday mornings are completely gone.kids are not kids anymore they don't go outside to play with their friends orvbrothers or sisters anymore.they sit back and are on their phones 24 hours a day.toys for them to me don't seem like toys that should be played with by kids anymore.children shows are gone ,you can't really find any of those all that much anymore.kids aren't taught any manners and are finding out the differences between right and wrong and even family time together seems dead and gone.we are all in bad shape and to repair something like this may be beyond any repair at all.its like when you slipped this far down I don't know if we have enough of a long rope to pull ourselves out of that deep hole to be brought back to the top of the surface.blame can go in a lot of directions but all I see and can say we all are in very bad shape and it is very sad to see something like this.
