I recently started watching the series with my kids. {mostly for me} Several episodes when by before I realized my kids assumed that Michael Knight was just on a phone call when Kitt was talking and that Michael was just using his Apple watch like anybody else. ...nothing weird about that!

Knight Rider was a huge hit among us kids at the time. The opening sequence is iconic. Not sure what happened with Bonnie, but I loved April; either way both complimented the show. Knight Rider fell into the same rut as Larson's other creations: when you didn't have a Karr, or Garth Knight & Goliath, there were many filler episodes. I mean Michael and KITT helping a small town against some local bad guys?? So the creativity was quickly tapped. If you didn't grow up in the 80's you don't understand the cultural revolution that was going on: there were new and exciting TV shows, movies, & music constantly. Knight Rider gets old? On to the next! This is another show that just can't be reproduced, it just came at the right time with the right actor (and car).

Thank you for doing this! I watched the original run of Knight Rider and I still learnt so many new things here! I never knew about the joke pitch. Wow. Here in Australia Knight Rider was huge; the Royal Melbourne Show had a Knight Rider showbag and a full scale replica talking KITT car. Here are my thoughts: 1. Favourite episodes: Knight of the Juggernaut arc, KITT versus KARR, and the episode where someone is trapped in the dam and about to drown and KITT has to rescue them by jumping and hitting an exact point on the dam walls to release the water. 2. But I have to reluctantly say that for all the things that I loved about the show it had its faults. The stagey fights when Michael got into a punch up were cheesy. That and the lack of a villain mythos. When Knight Rider did have a good villain, as in Knight of the Juggernaut, Knight Rider was great. But a lot of the time it was good, but not great because of those faults. That said, the episodes were repeated on Oz TV about 5 years ago on late night TV and I watched a lot. It was SO good to watch them again; I would watch Knight Rider and Magnum PI all over again ahead of so much of today's story-deprived garbage. Thank you SO much again for covering this!

The first time I realised William Daniels did the voice of KITT was when I watched an early episode repeat of The Incredible Hulk where I then heard his voice and made that assumption that he's the voice of KITT. It's a pity he never starred in Knight Rider as another character for a one off, the same way Lou Ferrigno once appeared as a second character in addition to the Hulk.

Awesome episode! One interesting note - the original show often featured popular music of the day throughout an episode. But they didn't get continued rights for that so if you watch the show now on the NBC app or the DVD releases, the music is swapped for generic royalty free kinda kareoke versions of the songs. This was revealed shockingly at the start of the second season. So yeah Garthe isn't the lookalike, its Michael's face that was reshaped to look like Garthe Knight's. I had the voice car when I was a kid. It's one of those things I wish I still had. Also pretty darn sure I had a slot racing set with KITT and Goliath. This show and Dukes of Hazzard, man, and then a few years later, MacGyver. Best time in the world to grow up. Also, I still think that the rebooted series could've done a lot better if they'd stuck with the tone and standards of its pilot. I enjoyed that pilot quite a bit for what it was, everything except Val Kilmer's voice for KITT. Update that, and it could've worked. Instead they went campy, including making KARR a little Transformer. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Also, before I die, I want just one REALLY good video game from Knight Rider. Just one with some real thought put into it. (Ditto to Dukes.)

The only connection/s 'Knight Rider 2010' has to the original series is the name and a car that would eventually talk, though it wasn't built with an artificial intelligence from its beginning. There is no connection to K.I.T.T., Michael Knight, Devon Miles, Bonnie Barstow, F.L.A.G. or RC III. It appears to be meant as a pilot for a series that didn't happen. As it did have some interesting elements I believe it could have gone to series with a few tweaks and a title change but as it was it was a slap to the face of Knight Rider fans that were expecting something a lot closer to the original show.

Well.... Studio interference is why Knight Rider 2000 and 2010 weren't very good. When they were making Knight Rider 2000 in 1991 -- producers intended to show the original black Trans Am, but Universal Studios forbid it. The 2008 reboot of knight rider was not really that bad. It was way better than team knight rider LOL that was just a dumpster fire. But the reboot got too far away in the beginning and what midnight rider right. They went away from the formula. By the end of the first season they were starting to get back to that but by that point the damage is already done. The show was canceled. But I think it could have been really good if they had stuck it out and adhered to the original formula that midnight rider so successful.

Thank you for making the name correction. I do say I have to agree with David Hasselhoff about the Patricia McPherson situation. She was awesome. Rebecca Holden was OK and her character was OK. But she was not believable. Bonnie played by McPherson always seemed credible when she talked. And she was discussing something about the car you believed her. It always came across that she knew what she was talking about. And that’s what you need in a show like this. I never bought Rebecca Holden as a scientist. I didPatricia McPherson. Two things that were added to the show that were useless and brought no value or made the show better or the following. First stop is the super pursuit mode. That was basically a waste. It added nothing to the shower really. And secondly was a character of RC. Again another addition to the show that I did nothing to it.

I would have to partially disagree with SPM. If you were younger than 16 then SPM looked awesome as hell. The trouble was that, if you go by the numbers on the speedometer, K.I.T.T. never actually went faster than he was already capable of. They sped up the footage to make him appear faster and that never looked very good. The addition of RC 3 was supposed to add a new character that could bring in, I'm guessing, a larger audience of color rather than just white people. He was supposed to be hip and up with the times but his introduction wasn't the best and his character never fulfilled his intended roll, not that he could because the writers were out of ideas and the series ended that season. Had the show run longer I think he would have replaced Michael as K.I.T.T.'s operator if David Hasselhoff left the show. I'm not 100% sure on that though.

They just can't seem to catch the true magic of an 80's TV show and what made them great and endearing to generations of fans. Personally I think they feel embarrassed to be associated and think they can make it better by being edgier, but they just can't replicate that x factor.
