I installed a new wiring harness on my 67 bus about a year ago and used the thin wire and it worked great.

Another great video Chris, and perfect timing! My 56' Rag top came with no harness, so I had no idea where everything went other than looking at pictures. Thanks!

why is it so difficult to find good accurate information and parts for 1973 super beetles? it seems there are a lot of parts that are not available for this year... for example there doesn't seem to be a complete wiring harness, or fuse box for the 73 or even an emergency flasher switch available for them just to mention a few... I have a lot of electrical issues with the one I have and can't even find an accurate wiring diagram for it... maybe you could shed some light on this for me... what are other people doing to restore their 73 and still keep it somewhat original? I love your videos, just wish I would have bought something older then the 73... by the way this is my first experience with a vintage VW... should have done some research on them before I jumped in with both feet...

Hi, Joe. Have you joined TheSamba? After-market parts and wiring has been such a hodge-podge of "compatibility" problems that it's difficult to wade through it all. I replaced a couple components on my '70 and had less than ideal results (aftermarket parts combined with a "compatible" wiring harness and my own inexperience). There are decent wiring diagrams here www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiringt1.php if your harness is factory.

check out JBugs.com they usually have some pretty good stuff. Heres a link to a wiring harness I found for a 73 super. www.jbugs.com/product/WM-131-1973.html

Hey Chris, i need your help. I have a 68 autostick I'm putting back togther. I need help finding the straps ( clamps) that attach the tanks to the brackets under the rear fenders. I have located every part except these. I have tried the usual places Samba, eBay..... Any ideas or leads? Thanks for all you do for the vw community.

Gosh I have no idea. I know there is a site just dedicated to auto sticks, have you tried there? vwar.org/

I feel your pain. Most of the ATF and vacuum tanks that's pop up for sale are typically missing the straps. Fortunately they aren't too difficult to fabricate with parts from your local hardware store or mod from something like a metal fire extinguisher strap of sufficient diameter. Good luck and thanks for keeping another Autostick on the road!

@@hjkgufytfyug I have several vendors that sell everything except those parts. If you need a supplier for a part let me know. I will be doing a lengthly video on them soon on my channel. Thank you for commenting. Never thought about fire extinguisher

I've tried fishing a pull-wire through and keep getting caught up along the way. Any ideas for what catch points to look out for? 62 Beetle.

Have you ever installed an "american style" wiring system (jbugs has one). I am curious

Hmmm never heard of that. But I always use the stock harness for specific year bug. Wire works makes the kit.

I'm wondering if someone could please help me. I'm thinking about buying a 1958 square window bug. The seller claims that it is rare as it is in coral red. Is this true, that a square window coral red bug is rare? It's also UK spec right hand drive.
@classicvwbugs
@classicvwbugs 5 жыл бұрын
Well RHD is rare in the USA. Coral red you do not see much either, but they do pop up every now and then. Where are you located? Most sellers say "rare" in their ads, along with "all original." It's a selling feature. Ya gotta dig deep into the car to see if all this is true.

@@classicvwbugs Thanks for getting in touch Chris. I'm in the UK. The seller seems a little dishonest, but that doesn't put me off getting the car I like if the price is right. I may ask him for the vin number, but the registration number should be enough to go by. I'm far from knowledgeable with bugs, I'm worried I'll buy something that isn't correct to the manufacturing period. Thanks again Chris, keep up the good work 👍
