The thing I like about great musicians playing simple songs is that the song doesn't stay simple. Their incredible talent and musicality shows up in the little flourishes they throw in and the emotionality they give it, which gives songs like this a magical, unique energy.

Greetings from San Diego's resident Rushoholic. There's a video of this worth checking out on KZbin. I thought of a handful of films you didn't mention: THE EXORCIST (1973), AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON (1981), BEETLEJUICE (1988), MISERY (1990), SE7EN (1995), and THE SIXTH SENSE (1999). Carry on...

Well I just learned something new today. I had no idea Mick Fleetwood and John McVie played on that song. 🤯 When I was 7 or 8, The Exorcist came out on television. My mom and their friends got together to watch it. All us kids played, had fun food, then got sent to bed. Well, I had to get up about 27 times to get water and find out what this movie was about. So I got my ass beat and sent to bed. Fast forward 40 years and I’m sitting at home watching it in the dark. Alone. After the movie I called my mom and apologized for being bad that day. We had a good laugh.

To take that concept even further: when Waddy sings this song now with the Immediate Family, he changes the line to "Except for Steve, we've all been fired by James Taylor!" "Psycho", "Get Out" and "Rosemary's Baby" are psychological "horror" movies like "Silence of the Lambs". "Get Out" and "Rosemary's Baby" just add a supernatural cause for the psychological "horror" but very little actual violence. If I remember correctly, all three have less violence than "Silence of the Lambs". Although that one famous shower scene in "Psycho" is very intentionally traumatic, but without actually showing any wounds and the only blood is in the bottom of the tub going down the drain at the end of the scene.

After waiting outside the cinema for about 15 minutes I realised they weren't going to turn up so I went in by myself, feeling super smug that I'd gotten into an R16. I was smug right up until a short way into the movie, after which I sat there quietly shitting myself...🤣
