Warren was so underrated as a singer and songwriter (except for his fans, friends and colleagues). He had such a knack for sardonic lyrics with a dark sense of humor. He should be in the Rock Hall of Fame, if he isn't already.

He was a frequent musical guest on David Letterman. A singer's/songwriter's singer/songwriter. Much beloved by his fellow artists. A high compliment to have.

Warren was a genius. This was probably the silliest of his many songs. He studied under Stravinsky as a child, and he composed some truly brilliant tracks. I hope people unfamiliar with him will check him out. The album Sentimental Hygiene is a fave, or the Hindu Love Gods album with REM backing him.

The so-called Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a complete joke for all of the groundbreaking artists like Zevon and many, many others who have been excluded, while inducting the likes of Madonna and Whitney Houston, who are hardly rock performers. I think it is absolutely irrelevant and should be ignored.
@rainerzufall42 Жыл бұрын
@@RicoCosta317 I can feel you, but it's not simple! Yes, it's always controversial, yes, it's always the same types, that are being snubbed, just as another example, this year, there was Iron Maiden on the list and didn't get in, although their contribution will not be denied even by non-metal-heads like me. For a long time (20 years!), Kate Bush fans had to wait, after she was able to be nominated. Switching between "why not" and "just to good to be in there", and "just ignore that silly HoF". Four nominations for her contributions, many chances, but what brings her in at the end? A silly Netflix series, in which her music was played ("Stranger Things IV"). That is humiliating! On the other hand - who cares? In the end, I agree with most of the musicians in the HoF, some of them were snubbed for a long time, before they got in, some got in much too easy/fast. But it is what it is, Albert Einstein got his Nobel price for a minor work of him, not for E = m c²... why? Because the jury wasn't able to understand, what he was doing there! Same with music!

Warren was such a brilliant musician. Lost too soon. Warren was often asked to sit in for Paul Schaeffer who was the bandleader for the Late Night band when David Letterman was still on the air. There is a very touching video of Warren's last time on the show. He knew he was dying and decided to do the show anyway. Letterman asked for a couple specific songs of Warrens's. He talked about living his final days etc. Very moving. Also Beth, he adlibbed about half the lyrics in this live version. You might want to listen to another version sometime. Oh, and FYI, his last name is pronounced like Zee- Von. Zee like the letter and Von like con. Loved your reaction (as always!).

This is very weird. I just received a Lee Ho Fook t-shirt and was listening to this song just yesterday! The original LP “Excitable Boy” is filled with the great LA musicians/artists of the era (and all time). On the original recording of “Werewolves” produced by Jackson Browne, Mick Fleetwood played drums and John McVie was the bassist with Waddy Wachtel on guitar (he co wrote the song). The story is, it was Fleetwood who kept insisting on all the takes. After Warren was diagnosed and clearly dying, David Letterman (a fan) dedicated an entire show with Warren as his only guest. I watched it when first aired and find it too heartbreaking to go back and watch it again. Warren’s final advice to Dave about life…”enjoy every sandwich”

This is his pop song, that doesn't adequately display his musicality or his incredible writing. On your own or for the channel take a listen to "Desperados Under the Eaves" a song about how a struggling entertainer suffers in Los Angeles, his desire to find love, success, and quit drinking, while contemplating leaving L.A. for the betterment of his heart, soul, mind, and liver.

It is called Gangster Squad, ( It starred Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone , who later made La La Land ) I hosted a radio show on the internet for 7 years. Every show this song was requested. Though my boss chewed me out every week I howled along with Warren, my listeners loved it. I would suggest listening to his song Excitable Boy, it is not for everyone, however that song also showed his dark and yet playful side. Have a great day. ( love your wolf song )

Just learned about your new album, and that it even has a song called "The Power of the Wolf", thats my next stop after sending this. Just feels like the proper opportunity to introduce you to what may be the strangest, but certainly the creepiest, song you will hear in your life. It's called simply "Werewolf" by (not making this up) the Holy Modal Rounders, on an album whose title has them being eaten by moray eels. Probably a good time to mention this was 1968, if you werent noticing a few clues? Studio ideas were a little different, psychedelics said a song about a werewolf should start off verrrrrrrry quietly, it is what it is. But by the end, the lyrics and the way they are vocalized, hits you with perfect aim, maybe there's more to a werewolf than we think

I highly recommend watching the 1935 movie Werewolf of London. Not only was it the first feature length film featuring a wolfman, but it predicted future technology. The main character is a botanist who has a lab in his home. He does not like people coming into the lab so he has a buzzer on the outside. When people ring it, he goes to a flat screen TV to see who is at the door.
