Is it not interesting how in the West African music was often depicted as "wild, raucous and uncivilised. Then however, this stately, delicate and beautiful music is what Africans are really doing.

West Africans (not broaden our considerations too widely... :) made music in made modes, traditions and manners, in differing contexts, with divergent social and aesthetic aims, to distinct artistic ends... and still do.... What does, i concur, strike one is that in a particular, external, discourse, for a time, that diversity and richness seems interestedly ignored, unexamined and denied.

Back in the day, Mansa Musa had more gold than the whole of Europe combined. Instead of using it to wage war and conquer as the European kings were doing, he spent it improving the lives of his people. I wish modern African rulers would follow in his footsteps

On what basis have you decided this? It's fine to be an optimist, but becoming a better person requires more than listening to music. A world that "seems like" a better place is only so within your mind. I think more reflection and some work may be required to achieve your goals.

ive been listening to music from Mali for years and i'm having this thought, for the first time, with this album : this ressembles classical music a lot. Like, Mozart. But, and it's an important one - it is a music of the people. Thoughts from a french guy who wishes his country would stop neo colonialism in Africa. Peace out.

Semplicemente eccezionale.

I swear if you swapped the kora to a guitar the first title would sound like Congolese rumba precisely Koffi olomide tchatcho style. We are indeed 1 us Africans same food different spices
