An independent ARMY (fan) run site is selling merchandise and donating all proceeds straight to the movement. A percentage of BTS’ 3 Love Yourself Albums also go to this moment and they’ve raised a few million for the UNICEF movement.

I love the new reactors! I appreciate their honesty and variety of music tastes. It’s really interesting to hear what each of them appreciates about music and why they like certain songs. They all broke down their thoughts very well so, no matter what their opinion of the song was, I enjoyed listening to it. Also, I’ve always loved hearing what each musician focuses on when they hear a song. Like Seiji focuses on the synths, Umu you like variation and creativity in song structures, Hugo focuses on vocals etc... it really helps non-musicians like me appreciate every part of a song and learn new musical elements to listen for when I hear new music. I’ve been watching this channel for about a year now and because of it, I’ve begun really enjoying breaking down new and old music I hear. Like each reactor, even if I don’t necessarily get hooked by a song, I can always find something about it I can appreciate. Thank you for always opening up my ears to hear new things. I’ll keep supporting your channel! And please get some rest Umu!! Your health is more important to us than fast reaction posts. :) But I appreciate all your hard work. The channel quality is great. Yo, I lobe Kevin because he isn’t a fan girl and yet he can pick out the exact themes in Bangtan songs and he doesn’t shy away from putting solid constructive criticism. One thing though, the over the top effects in the video actually comes as another layer of Bangtan's (okay! EDIT! "criticize" was the wong word!!) COMMENTARY on the KPop industry. This video is very much similar in style to other Idol Group’s’ style of music video. (Something that Bangtan does not usually do.) But they pushed it further, made it more colorful, much louder. It’s like them saying that despite being called “idol” they still don’t fit the mold even if it’s only something small that you can’t quite place. They're pushing it more so and almost mocking the outsiders that say that kpop all looks and sounds the same. Its like "look! this is what you think kpop is?" and throwing it right back at them and letting them know that you can call it whatever you want, mock it all you want, but Bangtan AND the kpop industry is a global phenomenon and it doesnt matter the box you put it in.

A lot of kpop mvs are like this tho..? Like red velvet, for example, have really crazy mvs with crazy cgi a lot of times, and Big Bang mvs are known to be crazy and colorful (I'll just mention these two cus if I mention more it might get too long The way I took it, like a lot of other people, was more of a "haters hating on kpop videos cus "they're too colourful/crazy/don't make sense" so we (BTS) did exactly that, just like x10 to basically blow it up in people's faces like yeah, this is where we come from (kpop), so what, we can be idols, we can be artists, or whatever you wanna call us, we're still gonna do our own thing, be it the crazy/colorful/dont make sense kpop mv trope, or something less colourful and crazy (like other mvs they have), whatever it is they'll do it if they want to. Also, this is like a party anthem, so obviously they had to do something crazy/colorful for the mv *finger hearts ^_^*

I think one thing that’s important is that it IS a party song. BTS have stated this song is a festival, a party, a celebration of themselves and the love they are building for themselves and the love they have for their fans. I think within the context of the LY:Answer album, IDOL is actually an exception to the entirety of what they have put out with the album. It's unapologetically over the top, to the point of satire. I think that level of intention really gets highlighted by the rest of the album.

I loved everyone’s thoughts on the song. I liked to point out to Kevin, that A LOT of imagery and details in the MV does have to do with the song/concept in some way. I didn’t find it distracting in any way, because I knew that the MV has things that talk about controversial issues with K-POP and there are some things that have to do with Korean culture. In my perspective, the reason why the MV is made to look all flashy and colorful and “all over the place” is because of the criticism that K-POP gets. One of the reasons many westerners dismiss K-POP is because of how flashy and outlandish their MVs can be, so I think that the IDOL MV fit perfectly with the song because IDOL is about loving yourself, not caring what other people think, etc. And BTS showed that they don’t care whatever people think. They’ll love themselves and do what they want. The point of the MV was to show that they aren’t afraid to be themselves and that they don’t care about what ANYONE says, because they’ll keep doing what they do. I’d like to recommend DKDKTV’s explanation on IDOL, because they talk about the lyrics of IDOL and the imagery in the MV. I can’t wait for the next video, and thank you for reacting to this song!

Not that they will change to please, but they do want to learn about their effects on the world.

Yessss. I really appreciated their reactions, how they broke down what was happening with the rhythm. I can't help but compare it to the reactions to "Fire" and "Not Today" a while back-unlike those (which I still love), "Idol" had enough going on to keep all the reactors interested the whole time. Side note: Thanks for the name and instrument cards on-screen! It's still going to take me a while to learn names, but those are helpful. Also, welcome to the new reactors! And yes, this is the first of your videos I've watched this season. Thus the above note. I prefer not to watch reactions until I've seen the original, and seeking out the original MVs for groups I don't already follow closely takes added time. But I'll still get to many of them!

Thanks, Elizabeth, you gave me a whole new way to listen to the song. Kevin will catch more in the MV if he watches it a few times and may change his mind. For instance, note how the Korean pavilion/performance stage turns into the shark cage, a safe place in a dangerous world, and how the enormous figures of themselves looming over them are transparent, perhaps representing the hype about them that has been blown out of proportion but isn't their real selves - call me idol, artist, whatever you want, it doesn't matter, I'm true to myself and my roots and I'm going to do my own thing regardless of the label someone else sticks on me or their fantasy of who and what I am.

It may seem like a bunch of random unrelated content to the average viewer, however really the video is filled to the brim with references, hidden meanings and related content. To Army watching the video adds so much to the song, personally (though I'm not claiming to have known all of the references,) I found myself picking up things like the filters, the glasses, the jumper, etc and thinking "that's right, you do you, screw what they're telling you!" honestly im all about the intro, talking about the song and the meaning behind it is what makes us, the fans, ARMYs, supporting and loving BTS mainly for their musicality and artistry and the message they wanna get across.
