NCT songs often cause controversy but they always are unique and interesting. I know people are mixed on the strong flute but it makes the song really stand out. Given how oversaturated the K-Pop world is with many groups and solo artists, Sticker’s unorthodox song structure and experimental sound is refreshing and memorable. I think Sticker really emphasizes NCT 127’s unconventional style and focuses more on their melodic vocals in the chorus rather than their typical shouting/chanting like in Kick It. The boys were really afraid of how the fandom would receive Sticker but it’s gained a lot of love after the initial shock and the group got a lot of music show wins with it. Really loved your guys’ reaction to it!

I’m an Indian classical musician and the flute is *exactly* like something you’d hear in Indian classical music; I absolutely *loved* this song from the get-go, love at first listen. For me, the flute makes the song, even though it’s (surprisingly, to me at least) causing controversy. I’ve been wanting NCT 127 to do something even remotely inspired by Indian music for the longest time and I’ve been pining over the idea so bad I think I manifested it lol. I am definitely biased bc of the flute, I’m a sucker for flute in general, so I’ve been trying not to take it personally when people say they don’t like the strong flute 😅. Something tells me they’re not ready for Indian classical music if they can’t even deal with this.

14:36 when she started comparing a classic performance dubbed as contemporary music vs the experimental one. I studied literature for a degree, I make the same comparisons when listening to NCT 127's music in general. NCT's music sounds like an experimental poem. If in poetry, there is a relatively traditional way of writing poems using rhymes, cliche's and forms, but then there are also poets and works that push the boundary of what's normal and socially more acceptable. I think this is the reason why I liked NCT's title tracks from the get go because it feels like I'm breaking down a poetic piece that's been written for the sake of being experimental or going outside the traditional. And what's amazing is that NCT does it in a kpop-mainstream scene. Basically they have the balls to do experimental concepts and push it for the mainstream and that's freakin gr8!

Sean got the gist of what NCT is! People were all like “lemonade” deserved to be a title track but since the day 1, I was adamant to the point that STICKER was more NCT127 title track worthy. If they had put Lemonade then 127 would have attracted a generalised genre on their name which isn’t what NCT stands for. As Sean said, “this wasn’t a 2.0 of any of the songs so far performed by NCT127” and that has been their aim since the beginning
@michellequiroz54962 жыл бұрын
I feel like that's sme general vision for their groups, I'm a reveluv and lowkey nctzen and I've always felt like rv promoted bsides (you better know, sunny side up and such) are a lot more general public friendly while their title tracks are very unique and now I've realised they do the same with nct, i think its great
@Mandozen3 жыл бұрын
I think Sean nailed it on the head in regards to the whole debate about Sticker and Lemonade. I agree that Lemonade is a great song but Sticker is much more titletrack-worthy because it’s a song that only NCT127 can pull off, I even doubt that other NCT subunits can pull this song off. I also love how SM is so confident of NCT127, it really takes guts and a whole lot of confidence to be able to perform this song live and NCT slayed their live performances of Sticker, even the encores.

I just have mad respect for NCT as singers, even if ppl don’t like sticker they can’t deny how much talent it takes to pull it off.

I saw someone comment about this song saying: When you keep on experimenting you get something new, that’s how music or anything evolves. NCT being one of the groups who tries to change the whole dynamics and perspective of music so people either are going to love them or hate them for bringing the change. I love how pretty much any song that SM does in general, switches up, has new styles and beats in the middle of the songs. Creating songs with multiple styles and sounds in one song is kind of SM signature thing.

Honestly, the way they reacted to STICKER is actually a very normal reaction to how people actually react to NCT! 5 years back no one would’ve even bothered with a NCT song & just would have cut it off but now, NCT has made “noise” music very normal and now, people WANT that. @kf40183 жыл бұрын
I think as a fair comment, it's not always a diss to nct, but there are many of us who are very uncomfortable with the genre of 'noise' music. For myself, I can enjoy it from the perspective that it's super experimental, and music itself should never be restricted as it is a form of art and expression. But I think kpop has been generally until recent years in the realm of easy to listen which is why the trend towards 'noise' music has thrown people off and especially for 4th and upcoming gens, this trend will be around for a long time. But I mean, I understand it can grow on people but it's very hard for the general people to accept it as 'good' music. Cool project regardless.

It made me feel like I was on a rollercoaster and I wanted to keep riding over and over~ NCT is my ult group for a reason, and it's because they aren't afraid to try new things. Some of the Neos themselves haven't been able to hide that they don't care for the song, which is fair, but I'm like HOW DID YOU JUST SLAY LIKE THIS AND YOU DON'T LIKE IT?!?!? The vocals were shining in a way I feel like they haven't quite before (we know they're incredible of course but the emptiness really pushed them more to the forefront) and the flute was addicting to me even though some people couldn't get past it enough to enjoy the track. I think sticker can be way better understood as a constant cycle of high-energy+low-energy. (flute +bass sound) (chorus melody singing line+like a stickaaa stickaaa stickaaa). I especially love Taeyongs beginning rap because it does the exact same. He starts with high pitch complimenting the flute, followed by low fast raps that fit the bass. Its a call-answer type of song. Most elements in the song don't "clash" but are just literal opposites following eachother.

i absolutely agree with those last statements. when i first heard the album, my immediate reaction was "why didn't they use lemonade as the title track? sticker is so off-putting." and then i saw some tweet or youtube comment that said something to the effect of "yes, lemonade may have been a safer option, but sticker IS the NCT brand." the experimentalism, the willingness to do something crazy, the boldness to produce something so off-putting on first listen you can't help but re-watch it. any boy group could do lemonade as a title track. ONLY NCT can pull off something like Sticker.

I’ve looked forward to your reaction for the longest time because I LOVE this song but at the same time I’m also extremely scared because I know how controversial it is. Edit: Now that I’ve watched the whole video, I would like to say thank you. This is why you’re my favorite kpop reaction channel, you guys actually know what you’re talking about. NCT discography is an acquired taste, I learned the hard way that people are extremely divided when it comes to their music and how hateful kpop stans can be since I start stanning them. Their experimental and “noisy” music is what got me into them in the first place, I’ve never heard anything like it before. They constantly challenge the traditional music structures and while it’s intriguing for me, some people completely reject the idea of anything unusual for their brain. My own best friend still can’t accept the flute sound up until this day lmao. I did get the same feeling of confusion when I first heard the song (I stopped in my tracks while running some errands and dropped my mouth open), then grabbed my headphones and re-listened. After 2 more times of digesting, I fell absolutely in love with the weirdness. That synth in the background? Chilling. The raps? Iconic. The vocals? Out of this world. Yoo Young-Jin is a legend for a reason. It will get people talking, definitely. NCT’s music is always ahead of their time. Remember how when they first debuted and people kept shitting on their rough noisy music? And now the 4th gen kpop groups all try to sound like that? Give it 3-4 more years, people will claim that something like this is a brilliant new sound. Just watch.

@@grimmsnow7441 well agreed to disagree then, I respect that. And oh yeah, I’m a VIP and a Blackjack way back when, I understand where you’re coming from with that YG claim. Bigbang and 2NE1’s music were (still are) iconic. But NCT’s experimental elements are completely different than the 2nd gen music when it comes to the dramatic elements. For me personally, the flute gives that extra oomph, but I understand where you’re coming from, my best friend feels the same way as you do. She loves the vocals, hates the flute and the music structure, it’s too much for her. As for Monsta X? I love them too! The teaser actually revealed all the main sound from Sticker except the pre-chorus and bridge, maybe that's why I wasn't confused at all. And the emptiness in the instrument makes me focusing more on their vocal. The vocal style they used here is bold and idk, crunchy ig??? It gave me excitement when I listened to it for the first time bcs they've never done something like this before.
