My name is Josh. Subtitles:16 languages. This is among my favorite Home Free performances! I thought I had a good grasp of Tim Foust's range but he blew that out of the water with this one. And Chance's low notes! This group is amazing and so versatile! I can't wait to continue my Home Free journey. Thank you for watching my reactions.

Hello. New subscriber. I really enjoy your reaction style. I feel like I'm in a good music appreciation class and love it when I can learn what it takes to hone talent into skill. I did go back and saw your first video on Home Free and you mentioned some of the songs you had already heard. I know you've already listened to "Elvira" from Home Free with the Oak Ridge Boys as guests. For what it's worth, I would love for you to do a video on this song anyway. I would love to learn how voices change with age and how professionals adapt to those changes. I also think it might be worth comparing the two groups in their stage in their profession. The Oaks have been around a very long time. They have a backing band when they are in concert. But, they can, and do, sing acapella when they do radio and tv interviews and such. Anyway, it would definitely be a video I would be very interested in. Thank you very much.

Yes it's interesting. Basses tend to get deeper over maturation, while tenors start to shrink (my opinion). It's also interesting to note, that although Home Free tends to identify with Country genre, the group's arrangement (R&B, Pop & jazz) along with tight harmonies I feel tend to be more associated with 'Take 6' & 'Boys to Men'. They can use styling in their voice to sound 'country' or blend without vibrator. I think it's evident when they do the video, the Oak Ridge Boys stop when Home Free does some key/tempo changes as they never incorporated that into their songs.

Thank you for another great reaction - they really did have fun messing us up on this one. Chance is a very good bass singer, as evidenced with his previous group, Street Corner Symphony, and he's had more chance to play with these lows more recently, in Down to the Honkytonk and the version they just released of Folsom Prison Blues. But one of the wonderful things about Home Free is how all of them have the ability to be flexible, to sing lead or harmony, to cover such a wide range. It just makes for such interesting music, because you never know what you're going to get next.

Also, How Great Thou Art, Auld Lang Syne, Seven Bridges Road and Helplessly Hoping shows just how good they are. I would like to suggest Tim’s collaborations with singer Peter Hollens in various songs, Greensleeves, Sounds of Silence, Fire and Rain and Misty Mountains. Tim actually shakes the camera in Misty Mountains (from the movie The Hobbit). I think you would really like Peter Hollens. He also collaborates with Jackie Evancho on Hallelujah that is just beautiful. Thanks for reacting to one of my favorite groups.

@@chrisd7047 and yet, JPJ is the most overlooked member of Led Zeppelin. Which is sad. Not to say the rest don’t deserve the attention they get- the do! But JPJ is just a really talented bass player. Solid. When Bonham would play with Page, JPJ provided the base. I have feelings on this topic, excuse me.

Demonstrates Wonderfully how singers in the same “Vocal Classification” can invoke VERY different Senses, Feelings, Emotions, et-all. Lemme explain *Talkin ‘bout Tenors* ..Austin is like you might’ve gotten a bit too comfy, but do NOT wanna Nod-Off, so you took a Shot of Crème de menthe, and stepped out into a Snowy, Starlit Night!😳🤩. ...Rob, on the other hand, is almost a direct opposite. His is the voice of: ...it’s been a Long, Tiresome Day. ...the kids are asleep. ...the wife tells you “I’m heading off to bed, don’t stay up too long...😉😘😉😉 ...you sit. Alone In a room, the only illumination the lights on the Christmas Tree. ...you swallow the last few precious drops of Single Malt 🥃 in your glass; and, with an over-exaggerated, breathy “well, I s’pose it’s that time” stand up from your easy chair. ...whilst making your way off to bed, you bid ‘Goodnight’ to the dog slumbering at your feet. ....climbing the stairs, all you hear is Rob’s Angelic Tones, like a Velvet Canoe gliding across a Lake of Golden Honey.🥰 ...at the end of the hallway you pause ....but only for a heartbeat. ...reaching for the doorknob, you mouth a Silent Prayer .....”Please be awake”😍🙏🏼🤞🏻😇 And, grinning like a Cheshire Cat, you enter the bedroom....😈 Or Sumthin Like That. *WTH do I know ...I can’t sing to save my life!🤷🏻‍♂️ But I know that, while the Music might move me “Ugly”🤪 At least it Still Moves Me!🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻

On this one -- Bass was 100% Chance; Tim with the tenor, baritone, and tenor harmonies (with Rob). Chance has phenomenal range also, let's not forget (Can't Stop the Feeling is only one!) ... his harmonies in tenor also can be of the upper range. Believe it or not ... Adam (Rupp) is said to be somewhere between Rob and Austin as a tenor ... but honestly --- I believe he's pulled off baritone and baritone harmony blend with Tim on bass. I fell in love with them watching 'The Sing Off'. The founders of the group brothers, Chris & Adam Rupp, had gone through members until got the right connection. Don't get me wrong, again, life gives people choices & decisions, for whatever reasons they left. It reminds me of how the Oak Ridge Boys started. Home Free came, they were mature & easygoing. The group prior to the 'The Sing Off' traveled extensively, which gave them them time to hone their tight harmonizing skills as an a capella group. On any given day an athletic team can win/lose. We can predict who will win, but until the actually game is played no one knows 100% otherwise why play the game? In the Sing Off, it came down to choices. Voice Play had interesting members who also had great range & flexibility especially the bass Geoff Castellucci. When Pantonix hit, I was pleasantly surprised. They became the darlings of the internet. They took off like jet propulsion. Timing of the filming of the show, it seemed it took forever to find anything on Home Free. Meanwhile, they were busy bees, but unfortunately life catches up & I didn't have the time when they exploded on the internet/concert tours. When Chris chose to leave it was a major change. Chris isn't a bad singer. I'd call him a interlocking singer, he keeps the ensemble middle. A baritone can lead towards the upper range or, go down into the bass. Adam was more upper, while Chance naturally has a lower center (one can hear it in his speaking voice) as well as wider range too. Numerous songs one can hear the ensemble's "flexible/versatile" range with Chance's input. This song allows Tim to go up & duo with Rob while Austin does the solo. Chance gets to shine in 'Folsom Prison Blues' taking over for Tim when he solos, same situation in 'Thinking Out Loud/Let's Get It On'. In 'Man of Constant Sorrow' he's doing that, plus sound effects many aren't picking up on. The country genre has never been fixed with 'a' certain sound. Listening to Patsy Cline, K.D. Lang & others there can be a smoothness to their quality. Here, quartets before them are legendary & known for harmonies. They are more flexible like Take Six & Boys To Men. Adam is deceptively brilliant as the beat boxer.

I watched an interview Tim Foust did recently, about being a bass singer, and he said one of the things he did in order to broaden his bass range was to practice singing in his higher range; it was advice he was given by another bass singer, and he wasn't sure how or why it worked, but it did. I suppose reaching for high notes stretches and exercises the vocal cords in a way that's also beneficial for singing low notes.

Great reaction! Interesting comments. The guys call Adam the heart and soul of their group, the heat beat of the group. Without him they would just be a great talented quartet with some of their own sounds, of course, thrown in. But together, incredible!!! And live, oh man, then you get the full idea of what he can do! Take care.

New subscriber. A great reaction - how can you not? It's Home Free! Chance killed the bass the whole way through this song!! Please add Country Roads, Quarantine and their newest (out yesterday), Folsom Prison Blues - so, so good! You will never be disappointed with their amazing vocal harmonies and dynamics - they can do it all.

Michael Mollard if you grew up many years ago, I was born in 56 all the older people called it a juice harp, because you spit slit while using it. It is a jaw harp but my great grandfather and the older men called it juice harp.

How does Home Free and Pentatonix manage to keep that many amazing vocalist in the group? It seems some really big bands would recruit them, or they would go solo. Many fairly big name bands do not have a lead singer as good as any of them.

Chance sang bass in another group before he joined Home Free and he slid into the baritone spot in Home Free, but he can also do a good bass and in many songs, you will hear him laying down a drone of bass in the background, also he switches off with Tim when Tim sings a lead and will do the bass. Chance also has a wonderful lead voice also.

I enjoyed your analysis. If you see Pentatonix's Hallelijah, Scott does bass while Avi sings his higher solo. Also check out Scott's low opener of Sound of Silence. And the new bass, Matt is in there too,

Tim started as a tenor and was there for quite awhile. Once he dropped to a bass and managed to maintain his tenor range. He’s said that working to maintain and even expand his tenor range has allowed him to extend lower range as well.

Uh the original video by Cam was referencing Amelia Earhart the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Review the video. WWII women were needed to fill factories & do other male oriented jobs for the war effort. Prior to this, women were to marry & stay-at-home raising kids. Amelia was active breaking records & breaking the stigma. Earhart was married and like the video, I don't think he was pleased at this dangerous project. Aviation was still unknown of the risks of propeller (winds, turbulence along with wear & tear). Mayday as known is a term for sudden danger. Unsure if Earhart was able to do that. During an attempt at becoming the first female to complete a flight of the 'globe' in 1937, Earhart and her navigator disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean. The last time seen was in New Guinea on July 2, 1937, 1.5 years later declared dead (no body ever found). 80 something years later there's still speculation what happened as there never was any wreckage found. Unsure if somehow got off direction crashed elsewhere, or, kidnapped/harmed by sexists groups didn't want her to succeed. The song written by Cam describes a situation where the person feels trapped & calling out for help (Mayday). When I first saw Home Free's version. It stuck in my head as it was a role reversal. Some of their arrangements usually are for 2 tenors (with 3rd Adam Rupp). This time the 3rd tenor was Tim he wasn't switching off singing bass, only tenor. Chance was the sole bass line in this song. To me it shows the depth of how there's both a baritone & bass parts can support the bottom & middle ranges with Tim & Chance.
