@@johonn Her point was that the lip synching "assignments" in a music video don't necessarily always match with the actual audio track. If you watch Elizabeth's "Inside 'Moana Medley' with Layne Stein" video from a few months ago you'll see them discuss an example of that.

CAM is both Beautiful and talented with a beautiful vocal ability as well ..... her version is that of A SINGLE, female voice with studio effect and added tracks to make a full sound .... it is great. She is not going to hold her own when compared to a group of PHENOMENAL VOCALISTS = Two Bass/Baritone/Low Tenor singers - Tim Foust, Adam Chance three registers ability, a smooth as silk Mid Tenor in Rob Lundquist, the high and migh Tenor great voic of Austin Brown & and low tenor who forsakes his melodic talent for BEAT BOXING, Harmonica sounds etc ..... and a confluence of harmony that blows you away. Just how it is ..... and how it is ----- IS WONDERFUL !!! GBjj

I think that Chance is the true secret weapon of Home Free. The others are appreciated for their various talents, but Chance's overtones are as good or better than Avi Kaplan's (and Avi is amazing!). He's the jaw harp in "Man of Constant Sorrow", the synth keyboard on the chorus of "End of the Road", and he's singing fast-fluttering tongue-twisters in "Can't Stop the Feeling!". He gets nowhere near enough love, because everyone else in the group gets more obviously amazing moments in which to shine (and perhaps because he replaced Adam Rupp's brother, Chris).

That's why I think the group is stronger with Chance than they were with Chris. All Home Fries are forever indebted to Chris so never any shade there, but it helps to have a second bass so that Tim can show off these higher notes.

And Adam is the most incredible beat boxer I've ever heard and he has a secret singing voice too.

This... Honestly might be the most technically advanced reaction I have ever seen on youtube to any piece of contemporary music. You talk about everything from the arrangement to the vocal tones of each singer in each section, you break down the singer's styles, both typical and what's interesting in this specific piece and you go as far as talking about the frequency range of things Rupp is doing... That... Is on a different level of analysis from ANYTHING I have seen on youtube. This song is fantastic from Home Free, but this might actually be the best reaction/analysis video I've come across in the range of reactions I've watched(even if don't we narrow it down to professional musicians) to any song I've watched. Keep up the amazing work!

You mentioned in the chat about reaching out to Home Free about the production- their longtime producer, Darren Rust, is also an acappella vocalist himself. He is one of the founders of The Blenders, a seminal acappella group that is vastly under-rated, and also sings contemporary Christian music as a solo artist. He owns and operates Skyland Studio and Skyland Productions, based in Minnesota which is where Rob and both the Rupp brothers hail from. Edit: in reading over this again, I should note that the Blenders are primarily but not exclusively acappella, particularly in their earlier years.

Thanks Elizabeth. I absolutely love how your reactions are always about helping us to appreciate the performances at a deeper level, pointing out specific techniques or subtle influences that we might miss. So many professionals that do reactions seem more concerned about impressing the audience with their knowledge, and the reaction becomes more about them than the performance they are reacting to. In contrast, you help us to appreciate the talent and the performance even more, and we fall in love with it all over again. It is also just so cool that your excitement and and joy are so incredibly contagious. Don't change a thing. You are also broadening our horizons into other genres that we may not normally seek out on our own. I must admit to being a bit of a vocal snob. So thanks for drawing me out of my cave.

"There's something special about Tim and Chance." Well, yeah, just the fact that the bass is actually singing tenor this time because why not and the display of the baritone that he has a pretty low range as well. :D I love the confused look of people who know this group well enough and go like "wait... what?" when they hear Tim up there. This is the best review and reaction of this video that I have seen! I thoroughly enjoyed it! I have never studied music theory in depth, but I was in A Capella Choir in high school. I also took piano lessons a couple of times, but your commentary and the way you explain the elements is the music is very informative! I also love your enthusiasm for the talent in this group! I concur with some others subs on their recommendation for you to react to their Crosby, Stills, & Nash cover of “Helplessly Hoping”!

Chance is an authentic bass singer. His tone is much softer than Tim's but if you listen to their covers of "I Can't Outrun You" or "Some Girls Do" you can get some clearer confirmation of this. Also, in their cover of "In The Blood" Chance sings almost all the bass line. Thanks for reviewing this. hj

@@boscotheman82 Well, he was the bass singer for Streetcorner Symphony and there are several songs that demonstrate that available on KZbin. Also, his work with Home Free amply demonstrates his ability to sing in the bass range. While he does not sing as low as Tim or Geoff or Avi etc. he qualifies as a bass singer.

Home Free during various live events or VIP sessions has offered insight. Chance sang the entire produced bass line for this song (and sings it live as well when they perform it). They needed 3 tenor voices to sing the arrangement & Tim can sing higher than anyone but Austin in the group, so not only did he sing the starting lead, but tenor harmony throughout.

As amazing as Tim's bass is or Austin's tenor is, there is no just one standout when you listen across their music. Serious credit to whoever does the arrangements and to the engineer. There is a real skill required to fully capture all the subtle parts of the group to really bring it all out.

Just discovered you today, and love the sweet spirit you bring to a very technical analysis. My son is a singer songwriter in Nashville with several Grammys and a double platinum hit. He's also one of the best sound engineers I've ever heard, laying down as many as 36 tracks in ProTools. I'm always blown away at the amazing amount of work he puts into his recordings. Like you, he hears things that very few people can appreciate, and makes way too many changes (in my opinion LOL) to every song he lays down. Thanks for your heads up analysis and charming manor. It reminds me of some great times in my son's studio...trying to figure it out!
