My late father was a successful sales manager, who could play football at a professional level when younger was also a very proficient piano player who attained grade 8 as a school boy during WW2. We his four children took his genius at the keyboard for granted. Listening to these waltzes takes me back to the years I was missing my TV programs whilst he tinkled the ivories. 53:00 sounds like a lullaby putting someone into 'sleep' (which is what nocturne is all about), but in opus 72 you're witnessing a slow, calm death instead. it's a sleep for eternity. there's just so much tragedy in Chopin's music. I wonder who's dead this time..it's like telling someone (who's dying) that you've lived so well, now, this time you can finally let go of every tear and peacefully leave. this might even be about himself

Not having ever connected with classical music or instrumental music generally (my shortcoming, not the music), Chopin is the one artist who always breaks through my deafness. The moods he's evoking through his nocturnes are immediately narcotic and arresting. I can feel the rain starting, building, breaking; maybe the only music I've ever heard that forces me (willingly) to undergo its moods. His creations are supremely "sentimental"--in the most beautiful sense of the word, not the conventional, negative sense (as people mean, superficially "emotional"--there's nothing "superficial" about the emotions Chopin makes you feel). Such a gift he left to the world in such a short, beautiful life. His example is proof of the power of music.

Eu sou apaixonada pelas músicas desse que foi o melhor dos compositores em todo mundo até os dias de hj. Adoraria ter vivido na sua época. Não me canso de ouvir.. Desde uma linda valsa até um estudo revolucionário.

Chopin has always been one of my favorites to play, especially his waltzes. The nocturnes were a tad more challenging for me. Anyway.... He, Mozart and Beethoven are my three.
