Classic Game Room reviews RED FACTION for the Playstation 2 PS2 video game console. This is the first and best review of Red Faction to feature a parody of the upcoming RedFaction game on the PS3 and Xbox 360 called Going Green Faction. The parody is funny because I felt like getting that keyword in here, funny that is. Ha ha. Red Faction is one of the best first person shooters on the PS2 and is regarded as one of the best of the shooter genre. FPS FTW as you kids say. You play as parker and slaughter Ultor without mercy, the evil big corporation keeping the miners on Mars down. Red Faction plays a lot like Total Recall in that it takes place on Mars, features oppressed miners and has lots of shooting and explosions. Rumor has it that there is a new Red Faction being released sometime in 2008 or 2009 by Volition and THQ called Red Faction 3 Guerrilla or something along those lines. Will it be on PS3, Xbox 360 and Atari 7800? Will it have multiplayer, footage scenes and animations, gamer points, 3d environments, geo mod technology, next gen things like the word next gen and HD visuals girls in bikinis? Whatever, I just want the RAIL GUN back and the ability to go through Ultor and raise hell. We'll have to wait and see what they do with it and if it's better than the amazing original, RED FACTION. called Classic Game Room was the original classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999-2000, now on DVD. This is probably my favorite CGR review. The reviewer clearly loves this game, and he doesn't share it in the cold, quantitative manner that most reviewers do. The words that he uses, and the footage that he shows, express his affection perfectly.

Damn i loved that game! I remember making giant tunnels through walls and mountains just to see where i could go and if there was limits to the game, man it was fun! I was soooo disappointed when i first heard that the sequel would be a 3rd person shooter instead of a first person shooter...and even though most people seemed to like RF2 more than the first one, i personally didnt like it at all, it was too different and the 3rd person view didnt work for me. I wish they would make a remastered version of this game, with todays technology this game could be even better!

Oh man this game was amazing. The sequels never came close. :( The story mode was very lenghy and REALLY worth playing through multiple times, but there was also a multiplayer mode against bots wich was amazing. Endless fun.

As if I didn't agree with you enough, about this game and so many others...you just had to win my heart over fully, by mentioning the precision rifle. All throughout part 1 I was flabbergasted and heartbroken that not a single second of PR cottage was shown. Thinking that my love for that gun misdirected and perhaps just...not right. But thank you. The greatest and single most enjoyable gun in any FPS I have ever played (with the exception of the magnum from BLACK, which is just too cool to wield). Thank you.

Damn I wish they would make a remake of the first red faction with,better Graphix,more map level on multiplayer,and more characters like the mercs and Hendrix and Eos Ect. I love red faction forever

l've decided to buy this game again because it was one of my favorites of all time, still is. But I have a question, l can't remember whether l played with auto aim or without, some say that without auto aim it's hard because the handle is too sensitive, but I can't see myself trying with autoaim when l play it soon because it just seems too easy, too goofy. Anyone knows if does work without autoaim fairly decently or does it bring down the playing quality a lot? I'll get it on PS2 by the way.

I remember picking up RED FACTION back in 2002 for christmas with my spanking new PS2!! i was soo excited to play it but the game was scratched and it didn't work at all i was fucking pissed!!! and now im more mad knowing that i didn't play this badassery of a game.

man the new first person shooter games may have better mechanics and graphics but they fail to reach the lvl of fun and enjoyment these older ps2 era fps had with this game and timesplitters

This is a classic game! they should bring back some of the proper geomod like in this game! you can bring down buildings in guerrilla but I want to blow chunks out of the landscape

I liked RF1 a lot. a WHOLE lot. I like Guerrilla a WHOLE lot. RFII was....a decent shooter, but not a good RF game. Armageddon is...eh.

9:50 projectile weapons in a space station? good way to turn the station into a siev, rail guns especially, id use a ray gun or a tazer, a gun that shoots tazer rounds that wont damage the hull. is the precision rifle any good in this game? I only use the heavy machine gun and the rocket launchers and the rail gun. and I hate the mercs with the rail guns in this game 1 shot kills.

I got this game i got it a long time ago, cant evan remember buying it, and im like how the f**k did this end up here... i used to allways have friends around and play it on ps2... and blow the crap out of each other... now i got a PS3.... and they got 360's... well some of them..and some ps3... now i just kick their ass online ^_^... but occsioanlly we meet up and play a game offline... the new Red faction is 3rd person... WTF!. its tottally diffrent cant evan tell its RF

when i got out of the jail i ran for the big green gun, manned that thing and then wasted everyone, didnt even think about jacking the miners gun. great game, when it got towards the end i just saved it every 3 minutes so when i died i didnt have to do a bunch all over again

Dude, I loved everything about this game. It had great music, it was a long game, plus it just loaded like Halfe-Life (no stages). Such a lovely game. I can only hope there is a remake.

RF1 is the best RF for PS2 but I wish there wasnt a geo mod limit. maybe if i get the game for PC with tons of memory and then ill download the geo mod limit removal mod.

Red Faction is a great game. But it's better on the PC. FPS is always better with mouse for more precision aim. Also the multiplayer is much better since you can take it online as PS2 Red Faction is just local multiplayer.

I'm not classic game guy, but they often drop health packs which can be very helpful if you're not playing in easy mode, especially further on in the game. So shoot them when desperate for health... but if you're a bit sadistic.. it can be fun seeing people running around with an explosive charge glued to their face (and then not letting it explode so they keep on running and screaming). Having said that: it's rather stupid to shoot the med-guys or nurses because they restore your health to 100%

Agreed! I mean, the actual game itself was pretty cool, but I spent most of my days playing the multiplayer against my friend. Just blowing up hordes of people and making mile-deep caves inside an industrial complex or...in...a cave :D lol. This is my favorite FPS game EVER!! It's just super fun. The graphics suck, but the audio is great, AND it's fun to play- and the fun factor is what I look for in a game, not just graphics- it needs to be fun, and Red Faction delivered that 100% :)

I totally agree: although the graphics look a bit dated the game is a lot of fun and you're completely sucked into it, as you said it's like being in a Paul Verhoeven movie! Anybody got any comments on Red Faction 2 (as compared to the good old Red Faction of 2001)?

I think every FPS should have a copy of the precision rifle. Don't tell me you guys never spammed that thing, because you know you're lying. That thing is god in a 5.56 caliber package. Merc heaven. Masako paradise. Eos....... uh........ good thing. Bottom line is this was the best FPS ever made.

Great Game ... one of the first i played on ps2. Much better than all those new, absolutly chaotic Script-Shooters like Modern Warfare ... oder Modern Warfare 2. The first one was still good, but the second one was ... well, i didn't like it (damn, where's my beer?).

I remember I played this and was really disappointed. It just kept dragging, and I felt it was a cheap rip-off of Half-Life. Making your own tunnels was cool, but it felt more tacked on then practical. And the load and save times were forever for some reason...play Half-Life.

Yeah Red Faction 2 sucked :( The characters were stupid, the setting less believeable, most of the weapons were mediocre, the plot was not as good and the Geomod freedom was terrible. The only good thing about RF2 was the huge amount of multiplayer maps. In my opinion.

Sad how your fellow miners are all just cannon fodder, you know that no matter what they're doomed to die horribly...but nonetheless, this game was absolutely beautiful, and they got the third one, Guerrilla, right! It was epic, and the story was beautiful :). This game will always be a favorite :)

I kind of get tired with the curent gen fps-es with the ott control schemes, advanced graphics and missions. In a way, i preferred the last gen console fps-es where they aim for just plain fun and i miss that

Half life and Red faction have similar gameplay elements but are totally different games. Its like Doom and Duke Nukem 3D. They are totally different, and similar. They are all awesome in their own unique way.

Excellent game. i still have this. Assault rifle is a personal favorite! at least until u get to the elite mercs.....then u have to rely on the precision rifle, heavy mg, rail driver, and fusion rocket launcher.

I really enjoy this game for ps2, the only problem i could say is without the auto aim feature, this game is almost unplayable, since the dircetions you can manually aim in feel like a grid.

precision rifel and assault rifle to me were always in hand! if not, it was the rockets.....rail gun does become a great deal of help especially when facing the elite guards and mercinaries

RF:Guerrilla made me smile with the hints to Eos and Parker as sectors. And the Geo mod v2 is by far the most inspiring work I (A hopeful Engine creator and modifier) have ever seen.

Kapek sounds eerily like Winnie the Pooh in the old Disney cartoons. Brilliant game. Cool Mars set 1player and proper blow evreything up as quick as you can multiplayer.
