The great thing about this game is that your weapons get more powerful the more you play it which gives the game a very high replay value, my second favorite saturn game.

Narniak69 I have both and I strongly disagree. From a technical standpoint x360 version is better. From a playability standpoint, IMO, the Saturn version blows it away. Plus this game has aged incredibly well on Saturn.

I realize that this game is in Japanese but you didn't mention the storyline at all! I've found translated versions of it online and It's absolutely amazing. Especially when you consider that the Silvergun ships themselves look a lot like the Vimana crafts of the ancient Hindu Vedas. Also, the storyline of Radiant Silvergun is very similar to those scriptures in the fact that the world is almost completely destroyed by super advanced technology and humanity has to start over again from scratch.

just got this in the mail a couple weeks ago.what can i say. it is awesome and im not even that much of a shmup player. i dont make it a habbit spending crazy money on a game , but i heard so much good about this i had to. any doubts i had were erased when i played this. amazing!!

The one thing Mark failed to mention is the chain system,which enables you just to take out a certain colour of enemy all the way through a level to give you a much higher score,he also forgot to mention the ikaruga chain system(diffirent to the RS chain system)when he reviewed that game,which is a shame because they give both games massive replay value & adds to the overall greatness of both games!

@mitzibishi, from having played it for a short while, only your three 'main guns' (straight shot, homing and lock-on) can be actively upgraded. The other variations (minus the hyper sword) are different combinations of the main three, so let's say you've got both straight shot and homing up to level 2, then their combined shot (the two blue rays) should be stronger as well, I'd imagine. How do you upgrade? By 'chaining' i.e. only shooting enemies of one colour in succession with one weapon type.

Search Chrono Trigger and earthbound Snes and you'll see rarity. Since Chrono Trigger was ported to the DS its lost a bit of that, however Earthbound has not.

True BUT you can do the swap trick as well with a tiny alteration to your Saturn (opening it up & putting a piece of card in the door mechanism to be able to keep it open when running).. Not ideal but it works - I have the oval button model Saturn so its very hard tosolder the mod chip & its easier to do the swap trick as there is an LED to help with timing. I have a mod chip but am waiting to find a round button Saturn, both can do the swap trick with good timing. The 60 hz mod is another one!

This is the best shmup I've ever played. It's also worth noting that it's pretty much the only shmup with a GOOD story, if you care to read the translations (look at emuxhaven . net / ~silver / Main%20Story . html ) Oh yeah, and Jose, you're my hero. =P Wish the review were longer though, maybe 2 or 3 parts to cover the whole game.

This game is actually coming to XBLA next year. But yeah it's not really rare, it's just in high demand. A couple years ago you could walk into any used game store in Japan and get it fro under $30. Store owners got smart though and have been pulling their copies off shelves and putting it up on ebay.

There are actually a lot more copies of Radiant Silvergun out and about then a lot of people would want to make you beleave. Production wise there was at least 300,000 copies of this game made; not even close to "rare" at all Sega Saturn standards. Collectors both in Japan and the US drove the price of this game up and up and up almost from the day it came out. And to be honest, the game is not THAT expensive if you were to actually go to Japan and try to find a copy there.

@shadowhexogram xbox live is just no substitute for original hardware if you have it. And for a 40 dollar chip, at 10 to 15 bucks per xbox live download it will pay for itself in 2 or 3 games. Some people like me just want original hardware, xbox live is a good stand in, but if you have a Saturn why not use it?

its amazing how he speculates on how rs might be available on xbla in the near future. at the time of that recording it wasnt, but it is now and it is indeed $15 (aka 1200 ms points). i used to own the game when it first came out and paid standard retail price for it back when babbages sold sega saturn imports. i bought it on a whim and never knew what a gem i acquired. well, now im rambling, but anyways, good job on predicting the future mark. maybe you need a career change, eh? :P
