So, I bought this game about 5 hours ago. I haven't stopped yet..well..aside from this tiny few minute break I'm taking to watch this video and comment. It's fun as hell. I'm not even talking about scripted missions either. Just all the non-scripted random things that feel scripted. Like, I was hunting those turkey looking birds to upgrade my wallet, when I ran into about 8 of them. They started attacking, I ran out of ammo, and suddenly 3 dogs showed up to attack. I ran the fuck out of there, climbed a ladder, and hid in a little lookout tower for a few minutes. Then hopped off the back and sprinted for a jeep. Got in and took off. It just felt so...good. If it was any other game, it would have been a scripted event. But nope, Not this game. Another thing was not long ago. I was climbing a tower when a jeep with 2 pirates drove by. It stopped in middle of the road and started attacking some dragons. So I shot one of them, causing them to drop a lit molotov on the ground, lighting themselves, their friend, the car, and a tree on fire. The 2 people took off running in opposite directions and finally fell to the ground dead about 10 feet away. Then the car exploded killing a dragon. Again, it felt like a scripted event, but it wasn't. It was just a random thing that happened because the pirates just happened to spawn near some dragons, and I just happened to shoot a guy when he was about to throw a molotov. If this was CoD, that would have been an entire scripted cutscene.

The simple fact they they added more weapons/variety in weapons makes this game better than Far Cry 2... The leveling, Skills, Passive Bonuses, Hunting, Crafting make it a FARRRR better game than Far Cry 2.

I've just been playing a bunch of Far Cry 3 and I agree that it's ridiculously fun. I did also enjoy most of the story though, but it does take a nosedive halfway through when it jumps the shark on what could have been an interesting psychological trip of self-discovery. Not literally jumping the shark, although a did that a lot too.

They do need to fix the controls. On my game, sometimes he fires or changes weapons without me pressing those buttons. Sometimes it does it on its own, multiple times.

I said conviction. The games may have betrayed their roots, but that doesn't make them bad games. Conviction appealed to a wider audience, increased the pace and cinematic nature of the stealth. There are allot of people who don't like that fact, but in the end it achieves what it was trying to do flawlessly. I admit, i found the originals more frustrating than satisfying, but they appeal to a very specific type of gamer.

What I hated in Far Cry 2 was, combined with the driving everywhere was how fast enemies respawned. You'd clear a check point drive just down the road realise you went the wrong way. Turn around with the check point still in view only to be attacked again. I think they really need to patch the fire in this one. You catch fire just using the flame thrower or repair tool half the time, you can be standing on the road flaming a guy and flames come up the bottom of the screen

I love this review -- and all of CGR reviews. This is the first review that I have watched that addresses the ridiculousness (in an awesome way) of the game. However, I would hardly call this game "mindless". While you can torch bears and boars and run over sharks with a jet-ski, there is a very serious story (that doesn't impede the fun) that deals with some very complex and dark issues. Following your character into insanity could be considered "mindless" if you're into puns, I suppose.

So I have this on ps3 and it really seems to suffer from low frame rate issues and video tearing... Is the xbox 360 version the same? I know it's ideal to have it for pc but my pc is getting older.

Mark, you forgot the bigerst diferente in far cry 2 to 3, Xp when you kill tugs. I'm playing far cry 2 and to see you gain xp makes me want to buy far cry 3 :-)
