quick safety tip for anyone trying this technique: make sure the tank doesn't have any residual gas vapors before you cut. I know you did but someone else may try to "cut to the chase" and try this first. love the vids

I agree with Basic Poke. You left out the most crucial step of the dent removal process. Re-do is required.... just pick out another badly dented tank and re-film your actions to take the dent(s) out.

Well done on the dents finally mate. It takes a lot of dedication to cut a tank open for some dents and I love that you’re doing it to keep some of the character and history on the bike. Really enjoying the content so keep it coming 👍

Nice job! The fuel tank reliner called "Red Kote" is the absolute best out there, and will even seal up all that rust, and any pin holes, either from rust through, or in your case, the welded seam. Amazing product. And muriatic acid (available at hardware stores) will take rust out, and return the inside of the fuel tank to shiny metal in about 15min. I've done a lot of tanks this way.

I will have to check that out. I used POR15 tank sealer this time but always like trying out new products.

Gratz on getting the dent out, amazing how sturdy those old tanks are given the thinness of the metal and all. Stay cool its hot out there!

Finally! Honestly, good job on getting that out and the weld job. I assume you'll end up shooting the bottom with black or green, etc to cover it all back up. Looking good!

If you were willing to do that you should have called a dent guy. Any semi decent pdr tech could have gotten those out with no push marks!! Love the bikes. Great work.

Interesting approach, Taylor! Glad it worked out for you. You may still be able to get a bit more out with glue tabs and a slide hammer if you feel like it some day. Thx for sharing. 🏍👍🏍

Hey man, awesome video once again! I have learned so much from this channel, keep up the good work. I do have a question about the lighting for this bike. I assume you will be using the LED strip like previous builds but don't remember if you specified. I was thinking of using the "stem" signals you used on a previous build and from your link in the description for my 74 550. Are they pretty bright or so so? Thanks again

Tig welder would of worked wonders on that weld job . People are scared of Tig welding its always put in the too hard basket or too expensive but its really not ... its super easy and way better on jobs like that . I brought a cheap Cigweld 185A lift tig no pedal very basic and it welds 100 times better for delicate jobs such as yours it cost me under a grand completely setup with a heap of different filler rods and torch spares . It will be your go to welder 99% of the time . As for learning how to do it a few youtube videos and practice an hour or so and you will be on your way to success

Hello, great video, but isn't it too dangerous ? Gas tank is full of vapor that can explode when close to fire. That's why some people fill with water before welding a tank.
@ClassicOctane
@ClassicOctane 6 жыл бұрын
My gas tank was full of water and frozen solid last week so I didn’t have to worry about gas vapors. Otherwise you should definitely be carful cutting/welding gas tanks.
