In my 79 years on this planet I’ve owned and loved and waved goodbye to 25 motorcycles. My present bike is a 2020 T120 and it looks like it’ll be one for the long haul, hopefully still rideable when (and if) I hit 90😎. Your 20,000 miles is a testament to what I hope to experience in the future, so you have to keep on riding and posting in order to keep all of us Triumph fan boys in the loop😄 Thanks for the info and video.

I think you’ll still be chugging the miles away on your T120 when you hit 90, but I imagine I’ll need to retire my one a bit before I hit 90 though 😁. I came late to motorcycles so it’s inspiring to see there’s chaps like yourself with a few more years on than me still riding, keep going sir 👏🏻

Wonderful video and narrative. I’m a very satisfied owner of a 2018 T120 with a little over 21K miles. Rather than getting into my own assessment of my experience with this beautiful, classic motorcycle, suffice it to say you touched on all those features regarding quality, fit, finish, performance , etc. very well. I’m 72 years young and have ridden a variety of motorcycles of all types for 42 years. A big fan of sport bikes over the years, it was time to give my aging body a break. The T120 meets my needs with style, comfort and ample power. Thanks for telling your story; I am a kindred spirit.

A mini clubman, an Alfa Romeo 156, a 1974 VW Westfalia and a Triumph T120. Four vehicles, out of many over the last 40 years, I’ve been lucky enough to own. The only ones that gave me that ‘feeling’ when driving/riding them. I know exactly what you mean about a bond. I’ll have another T120 one day, soon hopefully, and I can’t wait to make more memories on it. Great video as always Matt, best wishes.

Great video! I liked and subscribed! As I age (65 now) I am reaching a point where my Harley Davidson Fat-Bob will be too heavy for me to motor around. At 750 American Lbs. I'm looking to downsize in weight. I have always liked Triumph Motorcycles and I think the T-120 could be a perfect fit. British engineering is awesome and very thoughtful. You can't miss with a modern-day classic like yours! Keep up with the great work!

I just bought a 2024 t120 black in June and rode it around quite a bit and what a joy it is to ride the motorcycle. Next year, I am preparing to do some long distance touring and I am not hearing a great many encouraging views on comfort especially with the wind being a major factor as a detriment. Now, I am almost considering uograding to a cruiser leaning more towards an R18. Many say that I could install a windshield and I am the kind of person who does not believe in installing things that the motorcycle did not intend to carry and add to the overall aesthetics. This leaves me in a state of dilemma also windering if the extra torque on cruisers make all the difference to touring or if the T120 would suffice.
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 2 ай бұрын
Other than the annoyance of not being able to fix punctures at the side of the road, in my opinion the T120 is a perfect touring bike. Personally I don't find the wind to be an issue and there's more than enough torque available at any speed to keep anyone happy.

Beautiful video. Very well done. I've a 2005 T100 Black. I feel that you having had to replace shocks, chains, and brakes at 20k is pretty poor reliability. Mine has just 7,000 on it, and I've had to replace a coil, and then a year later an ignition module. There is nothing like the feel, simple beauty and style of these bikes, but the reliability has its depressing moments. It's like dating a club dancer. Beautiful and exotic, but you never know for sure if she's taking you home... My FJR1300 is the other end of the spectrum...not as pretty, a bit bulky, but always reliable and an amazing ride as well. Thanks for your work sharing this art with us.
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides 9 ай бұрын
Glad to hear you liked the video, but I would disagree with you saying the bike has poor reliability. I could've done a better job at adding a bit of context to some of the changes and they were not all because of premature failure; and the way I totted up the amounts wasn't all that consistent. So I think changing the brake pads and chain once at around 17k miles is totally fine. The shocks were aftermaket and Hagon themselves said they were surprised they'd failed. The tyres are another story as genuine replacements from wear were actually few. All in I've never had any worry about the reliability of the bike, I wouldn't have kept it this long if I had 🙂
@pbaddict1a
@pbaddict1a 9 ай бұрын
As I understand it the newer ones are more reliable. My placing 700 plus dollars to ignition system parts(at 3000 mi or so and around 6,000 mi) that should last a lifetime has me a little wary. I do love my Triumph.

Do you mean my bike Stanley? It's from the 2018 range. In my opinion the ones to get are the pre 2021 bikes as you get more standard equipment (grab rail, centre stand, heated grips), but they're all good really.

I'm subscribed over a year but this just got into my feed. The T120 of my dreams is hopefully coming soon. Funny, I always imagined putting Barkbusters on them - and yours is the first one I've seen. I know they don't make 2-point handles for Bonnies - did you fabricate yours? Also, what's that draped across your front fender? As always, your vids are poetry. cheers.
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides Ай бұрын
Thanks, glad to hear you like the videos. The little canvas roll over the mudguard was a small sit-mat I was trying out, thought it might look cool over the the front mudguard. With the Barkbusters I used their universal single point mount , so it's only useful for wind protection. I didn't have any problems fitting them but since I have risers on my bars, I'm not 100% certain that they wouldn't touch the tank at full lock if you have your bars in the standard position.

Thanks Alan, glad you liked it. The hand-guards are Barkbusters VPS using a single point mount to the handlebars. Won’t do anything for impact protection but they’ve been great so far for keeping the cold off my hands.

Beautiful video as always Matt!!! I hope to be able to do those kilometers one day with mine, although at the moment I have only a few kilometers since due to some interventions that have to be done on my hips I will not be able to use it. I see that you no longer have the Motone Aston/Monza gas cap and I wanted to ask you if when you had it installed it smelled like gasoline when it was standing in the garage, it just smells a lot to me and I don't know how to remedy it. Can you give me a solution? Maybe putting another rubber? Motone hasn't even bothered to answer me. Sorry for the length and I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in your Bonnie for many more miles. A hug friend.
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides Жыл бұрын
Hi Julio, I only changed the fuel cap as I have a tank bag that wouldn't fit over the larger Motone cap, so the original had to go back on. I never had any problems with the Motone cap so I'm afraid I can't give you a solution, but someone else asked me a similar question once so I don't think you're the only person with this problem. I don't think the caps are meant to be airtight, but my worry would be if your cap isn't sealing properly, water might get into the tank from condensation or bad weather. My advice would be to put your original cap back on and chase Motone for an answer.

Thanks Matt. I will try to contact Motone again but I don't think they will have much interest in solving this problem. Many thanks for everything.@@ClassicRides

Regarding your maintenance list, would you consider the 6 brake pads, the new head bearings, new rear shocks normal wear? Also, do you remember if you changed fork oil and seals in your 20000 miles.
@ClassicRides
@ClassicRides Жыл бұрын
The brake pads would be normal, it’s likely the notched head bearings were caused by me riding over a deep pothole and walloping the front end of the bike, so not really normal. And the shocks failed far too early, but the company that made them rebuilt them at cost for me and apologised that they didn’t last as long as they should’ve. I haven’t needed to touch the fork seals or oil yet 🙂

Incredible cinematography, mate. If you don't mind me asking, why did you go through 11 tires in only 20k miles? That seems like a disproportionate amount of rubber... The 6 brake pads also seem excessive.
