Skating is always progressing but speed and finding the right lines never gets old. Darren Navarrette introduces a classic from the 1987 Gullwing video.

It’s hard to fathom how deep, big, burly, imposing, and absolutely intimidating the Upland Combi pool was... 12 feet deep, almost 3 feet of vertical and miniature tile below the pool coping that sounded like a chainsaw or machine gun when one carved it at speed especially in those tight shallow corners...We flew out from South Florida got to skate it once before it was bulldozed after looking at it in the magazines for years at least vans had the cultural respect to rebuild it in the Orange county Vans skate Park.

is their Vans Huntington Beach combi bowl also modeled after this? Got to skate it recently (i skate street and am NOT a talented transition skater at all but love it and am learning) and omg the intimidation was real. Went to the hb park visiting CA from out of state and didn't know Wednesday was BMX only day. But they will let you skate the combi bowl. So I'm staring at this multimillion dollar dream street course, immaculate, and the other, sprawling, giant bowl they have with mellow height and transiton that I CANNOT skate but " hey I'm there so let's check out the combi bowl. " and yeah that was bar none the gnarliest bowl I've ever seen and skated. Great memory!

To have a skatepark like Upland would really make pool riders into stylist beasts.

was just going to ask if the place still existed. Looked a really fun park minus the poles at the top of some of the bowls, looked kinda dangerous. Im guessing they were used to fence off sections

no old upland does not exist but a gnarlier newer one is built in upland today based on part of the old one and the new combi at vans orange based off the combi bowl from the og.
