What makes Jonas' run of consecutive final appearances even more impressive is, that he's not just placed as the finalist beforehand, but always goes through all the lower rounds first. We've seen other elite players go out earlier, but Jonas ALWAYS makes it to the finals. Just to emphasize on that: Jonas' worst run in the CTWC history is 2nd place!

Patrick vs Joseph Game 2 is perhaps a quintessential example of the difference it makes being an elite player on level 19. Patrick played a very admirable game and was dead even with Joseph until the transition, but then the score discrepancy between survival burns and tetrises opened up a 200,000 point spread.

That's the difference between what Joseph does, which is playing to win, and what people like me do, which is playing to not lose for a little while. It's hard to compare, but it's only when you start to play that you really get a sense of just how unbelievably good the competitive elites really are.

so there's a zero off the end of the scores? ok. But how does that system work? I heard on one of the CTWC videos that Trey coded something that makes it all work, taking the NES video and turning it into the crisp display we see, and overlaying all the cool info that we also see -- but just after they mentioned that, and before the actual explanation, the commentators trailed off and left it hanging. Can someone give us some detail? Even a video explaining how it's done -- even an interview with Trey?

Nes, not snes. Im not sure exactly how it works. I tweeted at trey for an explanation video but no response, maybe he did but i havent used twitter since. So from my understanding he is reading values from the cartridge ram with game genie, and then he is redrawing the game on the pc's that are streaming it. I think the players are still playing the regular game on CRT to avoid latency, after level 18 its almost impossible on a modern tv/screen. If you have any specific questions about it I can do my best at guessing, im a coder myself so i have a fairly good idea how it would be dond.

The software that composites/draws the games into our stream reads the scores from the NES video feeds. It has a few different options and they just weren't configured correctly, they had been set for the previous days qualifying rounds and in the rush to get everything setup Sunday morning we didn't notice that it had not been configured for vs mode competition until midway through Jonas's game. I know im late, but i think the finals (Jonas v Joseph) kinda gets mixed up as well. Not only that, but in more later rounds, especcialy top 8 and top 16, joseph gets mixed up with jonas, even though Jonas wasnt even playing. Hope that was close enough

I know it's 5 months late but--I believe it is. IIRC you can only use the classic NES controller, whether it's your own or lended from the organizers. Also they'd inspect your controller to make sure it isn't hacked/modded.
