EXTREME - HEAVILY MODIFIED - Ford 8N Funk Conversion with V8 Ford Engine and Front Wheel Assist

This is not your average 8N Ford!
Curtis from the Orlando, Florida area has an extreme passion for classic Ford tractors. His favorite ford is his heavily modified 8N which has several unique features. Curtis removed the original engine and replaced it with a Ford V8 engine similar to the Funk Conversions from the same time period. This increased the horsepower from about 30 to 85 horsepower. Other conversions to his tractors include a modified exhaust system, front wheel assist conversion, a Sherman transmission which has 12 forward gears and three reverse gears and duals on the rear wheels. Curtis' tractor is a 1952 model, the last production year for the 8N Ford.

We had a Ford 8N for many years since the early 60s. It got used a lot and quite beat up. We sold it in 2013 to a retired gentleman who restored it. He was a body shop many for many years and really did a number on it. He showed it to us and offered it sell it back to us for much higher price. It looked like new again. Also ran like new again. What a beautiful little tractor. I'd love to have an 8N with the Funk conversion V8.

I did work for a man and his wife in Phx AZ ...they owned a body shop...but had this tractor they put a flat head V-8 in...fantastic job...it looked pristine!!!

Probably the purists. If this were some super rare tractor that was cut up I could see the disdain. But ford 8N and 9N's are EVERYWHERE. It's really a testament to their popularity and longevity of the series to see how many of them are still out there, and in running condition. I think both are very cool modifications. I've got an old 641 Workmaster and I have to admit as dead reliable as that tractor is I could certainly use that 6-cylinder's horsepower when fighting both high brush and the up-hill bits on the property. :)

An 8N was the very first motor powered vehicle that I ever drove in my lifetime. It was on the Westgate Golf Course just south of Chicago. I worked on the grounds crew as a kid.

My 1951 8N has the 12 speed Sherman transmission on it. Thank you for mentioning that transmission. I've only had it in 8th gear and it will do 28 mph, which is fast enough for me.

My grandpa passed in 81 left my dad the family farm he had an 8n with v6 conversations we also have a 33 Massey Harris with a v8 conversations I got the Massey trike to about 20 one time on black top everything I could do to hold on and get it stopped scared me to death and I spent and hour reloading hay wagon I dumped all down the ditch

That's so cool, Flathead V-8 8N. Looks absolutely beautiful, I just love the sound of it. The flat 6 is very cool too, that is a heck of a upgrade. The 8N is my favorite tractor. My dad had one when I was a young teen, I spent a quit a few hours on it. Fast forward to today, at 81 years he has a Ford Jubilee that he uses around his home for basic chores. It’s so sad there is nothing made today this practical, inexpensive, long lasting and quiet. I have a 1953 Jubilee my Grandfather bought new and it’s never been apart. It retired to light bush hog and finish mowing in 1973. No new clutch, no new brakes, original radiator all are sixty seven years and counting.

I grew up with these old tractors. The six cylinder is “da bomb” because it is a real slice of rare history. The V8 is a real WOW factor. Nice job for making the V8 more practical. If you were giving one away I’ll take the six or the four and go to work. What’s missing, millions of very small, resourceful, strong farms owned by real men and women like my Grandparents were. My Grandmother had 1000 layer hens in 1948 and made many times the money of a furniture factory worker in North Carolina. Eggs were 40 or 50 cents a dozen and a worker made 75 cents or $1 an hour.

I see a neighbour of sorts that has an original 8N. He uses it to plow the rural roadways and driveways during our brutal winters. During our extremely harsh springs, he uses it to pull vehicles out of washed out roads covered in thick mud, vehicles stuck in foods, and to pull downed trees off roads, houses, and other vehicles. In summer, he still uses it like a standard tractor. He lives on that tractor. It has never let him down.

Lol I'm from Southeast Ohio and those old Fords are still popular today not only as collectors but utility. I'm an IH guy and a Chevy guy on the road. Somehow two two vehicles I use most on my small slice of paradise are my 8N and a 1978 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 300 inline 6. The 8N also has an industrial 300 out of a wood chipper it is custom though and . I bought it at an auction that way not running and I had a running woodchipper that I could swap parts with and all I needed was a distributor cap, points, a starter (10+ starters by now Ive lost count) and a fuel pump, I just switched to electronics for that because thats how the chipper was set up anyways. I move hay almost everyday with it.

Had a 1950 8N. We farmed with it for yrs. I know. one thing for a fact, you better be darn fast to feed a tobacco setter behind our 8N. Low gear(1st) on the 8N was like a low 3rd on our 3600 Ford. Boy did we sure love our 3600. 😂😂 Sure do miss the old days of farming. Really good looking tractors. 👍
