A beautiful tractor. I grew up with Massey-Ferguson, and loved them; but, in 1984 while working as a Dairy Herd Inspector for Agriculture Canada I visited a dairy farm that had Oliver tractors, one was a big field tractor, the other a smaller tractor, 4-wheel drive with a loader on it. I was really impressed with them and at the time we didn't have any 4-wheel drive tractors on our farm, so I fell in love with that tractor.

My grandfather worked for the Oliver Tractor Company, for as long as I can remember. He was a Regional Sales Executive in the Midwest and on the West Coast. It’s my understanding that he, helped establish the Fairfax Industrial District in Kansas City. Love those tractors. Miss those days.

More of these 70s-80s "muscle tractors" need to be back in the fields working as paid off assets vs the bank owned age we are in now

Worked at MM summer of 57, machinery factory in Hopkins Mn. I was a hooker for a crane operator unloading steel, outa hi school, got laid off in fall, remember being felt rejected, and cried . That’s when I entered trucking, hauling gas and light oils. Still at it today at 85 years still drive a big ole kw most days.

The man I worked for in the mid '70's had one. It was 4wd with a cab, we used it for picking corn in wet conditions, ran one of the first 3 row harvester I had seen and pulled about 22-24 ft of disc in the spring. I believe it is still around, sold about 5 years ago at a local sale. I hope someone is looking after it.

On International Transport hauled Oliver’s outa Charles city IA to Tracy Cal. Hauled one of these put the two extra back tires on the deck of 40 ft flatbed. Over width in them days could not run at night, so running double , we ran anyway axles only 2 inches over each side. Dating myself passed one on I40 down south all restored a few years ago.

Thats a really cool tractor, and tastefully put together. I would put a different style of tires on the front, though.

The 3208 isn't a terrible engine, it is light and compact. With that being said, that's its fatal flaw... it was a diesel engine designed with the mechanical strength of a gasoline engine. Keep them happy; things can go south quickly.
@NTEvans-Justified.45s11 ай бұрын
We keep them revved up when working them in these tractors, as they like to be ran at proper speeds and not lugged. My 2255 FWA has the 3150, and it does well. This guy’s tractor must have been re-powered with a 3208 because he states his is a 1973 model, and 1974 is the break year from 3150 to 3208. There truthfully aren’t a ton of FWA 2255s with the 3208 since it came so late in production, and the green paint went away in 1975.

Have a Community College, with a diesel program, close by. Let the students keep the bottom end in tack.
@adamkruskama845510 ай бұрын
Correct . They did better in a combine. Revs for days but no bottom end. Except for the Perkins Oliver/White never had the motor till the Cummins in the last Whites model. Shame. The rest of the tractor was a good tractor. We had two 2-70 and 2-105. I thought these were big. Now we have two 9460r John Deere’s doing the same ground way faster. No more plowing in rotating shifts.

I worked on one of those. Oliver 2255s and it must have been an earlier version than the one in this video. This one had an 1160 caterpillar V8 diesel. It didn't have the duels and it didn't have the front wheel assist but even still it was very massive and it was very powerful. What's unusual is that it's such a large tractor in my area which is Eastern Tennessee. You don't see a lot of very big tractors here
@NTEvans-Justified.45s11 ай бұрын
If it had an 1160 it had been engine swapped, which wasn’t uncommon the lifetime of these machines. They were only factory spec’d with 3150s from 1972-74, and then the 3208 (non-turbo) from ‘74-‘75 end of run. Doesn’t surprise me, as an 1160 likely mates up the same as the other engines and was available.

Only bad thing about a 3208 is the lack of cylinder-sleeves. Other than that, they're great engines, and they sound the business.
