I don't know if anyone has said it yet, bu it would be wise to run a good ground to the chassis as well, then one from the chassis to the engine, hooking to just the fire wall is good for inner body electronics, but the body is setting on rubber body mounts. It's just best to supply the ground circuits ... one to body, (2) one to the framework, (3) one from frame to engine. the one for the engine, I would use a flat braided cable, I'm a retired GM tech with close to 45 years behind me, and I'm willing to help with any questions you have. My specialty is body electronics. Nicely done videos, I have a small You-tube channel too.

+Classic Truck Rescue Learning about relays will be a big help, all it is, is a light amp circuit controlling a heavy amp circuit, very helpful on wreckers. It's also a good way to tidy up wiring and to build a control switch board. Relays Are a inexpensive way to protect a component or harness

That resistor is for the old points and condenser distributor. Knocks volts down to 8v so the points live longer. Since that is an HEI distributor, no points, it needs a full 12volts run to it. Cool truck. OK. I see others have already mentioned that. Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos.

I had an issue on my 1971 Cuda where the original wiring for the alternator was routed between the valve cover and the intake manifold. The plumbing for my Holley 4bbl leaked near those wires and the carb back-fired causing those wires to ignite from the fuel spillage. After fixing all the carb leaks and timing, I routed the wires along the firewall and wheel well, and then to the alternator for a cleaner looking (and safer) wiring job. I hope this helps. Thanks for rescuing these relics, you are also restoring American heritage! Well done :)

OMG this is so cool!! Back in 1994 My dad sold a 1959 Chevrolet Apache Step Side pickup with an inline 6 and an Oil Bath Carburetor. He sold it to the salvage yard in Walton Kansas, for $500 because he blew a Head Gasket and tried to fix it and failed.. He did not have the money to take it in to get fixed back then either. I was 9 years old and not a mechanic yet, my interest was playing with my friends.. oh and of course I had just developed an interest in Girls.. lol.. anyway I went back to Walton Kansas to that Salvage yard recently and the truck was gone, however.. I love Salvage Yards because they have some of the coolest old cars there are.. When I was 17 years old around 15 years ago I bought an old 1977 Ford Ranchero GT with the 351 WIndsor 5.8 Liter V8 engine and a 350 CFM Holey 2 Barrel Carburetor (H2-2300) and an FMX 3 Speed Transmission with a Ford 9 Bolt Rear Axle. It looked real rough when I bought it and it did not run, but I straightened out panels did engine work, started repairing it. I was 17. Changed out the distributor Hall effect coil, Ignition Coil, Ignition module, Cleaned out the Carburetor, did some rewiring, Bought a new Regulator, New Alternator, Plugs, WIres, Cap, Rotor.. Turned the key.. She fired right up.. I have had that Ranchero for 15 year and I still own it, it still runs.. It has 380,000 Miles on it and Antique tags on it! I love old cars, I wish I could have found my dad's old pickup, I would have definitely bought it and fixed it up!

your very correct about grounding, I had a 69 olds and when I stored it . it was all in working order, when I took it out of storage, I had no lights, turn signals, or brake lights, after I got it home and opened the hood, I found that some one had taken the ground wire off of the motor, to the firewall after I reinstalled it and all came on, so yes grounding is very important
@docpedersen75827 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Subscribed just based upon the Homer vids. Here's a viewer tip for you, based upon my experience as a broadcast transmitter engineer. For battery connections, get yourself a bottle of STP and some acid brushes. Paint a coating of STP onto all your battery terminals and they will NEVER corrode. Clean them up first with a battery terminal brush, then do the treatment. Used on standby battery racks used for transmitter equipment. I've seen ten year old battery installations so treated where the cables and terminals still look new. Give it a try. Doc

That front bumper looks mean with that rubber cover on it...A little trick I've learned Rick with ignition systems especially in older vehicles, is to install a 30 amp 4-pin relay to take the load off the switch and its an easy install as the ignition will be getting voltage from the battery directly... Here's how its hooked up and use beefy wires (ps overkill is always good :)) Relay:- Terminal 85 (ground) Terminal 86 (switched 12v) Terminal 87 (device to be powered, in this case + side of coil) Terminal 30 (constant 12v from battery and also place a 30A fuse on this wire) On a side note, always use a coil that is made for electronic ignitions as points coils break down when trying to power e.i.'s, and also remove the ballast resistor with electronic ig's!!! Great vid bro!!!

I have a 60 Viking grain bed all original. Guy was delivering firewood and it wouldn't start back up, lol. I had an old 72 Ford sitting in the barn offered him title for title. After he drove away in the Ford I put a good resistor on the firewall and she fired right up. 6 years later and a fair bit of time and money she's still on the road and looks almost new. These things are notorious for eating resistors if the ground is not kept in reasonable shape. Oh, and I had $100 invested in that old ford.
