Thank you so much! I needed this to help me understand a book I was reading about understanding violence and schizophrenia came up in it. In order to understand the context, this video helped enormously! Thank you and I hope your cat is okay

Hi psychboost, I find your summary videos for each topic really helpful - are you planning to continue creating them for Biopsychology onwards?

Hey, yeah. It's in my list of tasks to do, but closer to the exams.

At 3:21 you said we would classify disorganised speech as a positive symptom, but Isn’t it negative ?
@PsychBoost3 жыл бұрын
Well this is an interesting point. Negative symptoms are a loss of a function we would expect to see in a healthy person, so lack of motivation (avolition), and when it comes to speech a lack of words (speech poverty). Or a lack of emotional tone in the voice (flat affect) But positive symptoms are what we see in addition to normal experience, so hallucinations and delusions. But for some people their speech is excessively disorganized in a way we don't see people without SZ, and their conversation goes off on unconnected tangents (speech derailment) as these are additional we would define them as positive. So in short speech issues can be either positive or negative depending on the exact symptom.

i thought men were just more likely to be diagnosed, not more likely to develop it?
@PsychBoost3 жыл бұрын
Hey Sofia, when I was doing my research for the video there was a lot of conflicting research. Much of it to do with a lack of gender bias in samples. Too much to get into in such a short vid and at the level of A-level. I don't think you are wrong to take either argument as there will be research to support your position on this one!
