I love your teaching philosophy around reading levels! I completely agree and would probably never have my books levelled. I love the flexibility of having my library geared towards topics and series. I have also noticed how this motivates students and gets them excited about reading! Thanks for sharing 💜

Great Vlog! So glad I found your channel! I prefer a subject over leveled library as well & appreciate the way you explained this. Looking forward to checking out more of your vlogs as this is my 4th year teaching, but excitingly my first year teaching 2nd grade.

I loved hearing your philosophy about reading and also all your finds for inclusive books at appropriate levels! I am switching to second grade this year and would love to use some of your ideas when organizing my library. I also walked into a TON of books that need organized. :)

I loved getting to know your library better... I too am very passionate about teaching and telling my littles about my love of reading and want to pass that passion and love of reading onto my littles (even though they are in preschool - but I believe you are never too young to learn to love reading)...... ❤️

Your library is wonderfully inviting! I have the same approach to organizing my books. I sort them by subject and it is amazing to see how much interest in a subject can motivate a student to read.

How is your library inclusive to other races and cultures? I only see animals and white protagonists.
@MadeForSecondGrade3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sulema! I actually try to be very conscious of including other cultures and races into my classroom library and it is something I'm passionate about doing as I serve a very diverse population of students. The books that are out on the main shelves in my classroom are my series and genre bins. Like I mentioned in the video, I've noticed that Upper Elementary/ higher level series have come much farther in terms of inclusivity, so I am always on the hunt for new developmentally appropriate series for my students. If you have any favorites for second graders, I would love any recommendations. I also do not have any of my hardcover picture books out because these serve as mentor texts. These include any holiday texts, many biographies, and social emotional texts that feature people/characters of many backgrounds. I pull these out for read alouds and they rotate on my display shelf throughout the year for students to check out and enjoy, but are stored in my cabinets so that they stay a bit more organized than some of the classroom bins. Hope that clears it up a bit! :)
