I am a 29 year secondary teacher. My 22-year-old daughter is a soon-to-be middle-level educator. I wish I could have received some of your instruction long ago. I shared your videos with my daughter and will share them with secondary colleagues. Much of what you teach can be modified for older kids. May God bless you, and I pray that you can make some money off of this. Teachers need teacher life coaches. You are fun to listen to. :) Two thumbs up!

Another great video!! In my first few years of teaching, I truly struggled with transitions. But once I realized that I needed to be more consistent and practice practice practice.... It became so meaningful for the students! They are always so happy when they know what to do and what's expected, and they do it well. I love giving them that encouragement and saying, " Wow! You guys transitioned so well today!" Their little faces just light up. For my transitions between different subjects throughout the day I use theme songs from old TV shows. For example, if we're done with writing and need to move on to Science, I'll play the 'I Love Lucy' intro. They know by the time it stops, they should be ready with their Science notebook out, ready to work. I also love Mork & Mindy, Andy Griffith, and The Flintstones themes. The kids love them too ❤💛💜

You are teacher after my own heart. :) I enjoy using music for transitions too! It's serves the dual purpose of integrating some of my culture while transitioning. I love how the use of music creates a sense of urgency and the pride my students feel when they "beat the music" and are ready for the next learning activity. I also celebrate their successes (cleaning up well, completing tasks, showing readiness...) so they don't rush through due to the sense of urgency and not do the task well. I love this, Miss May! The need for practicing cannot be overemphasized.

Quick question. Love your approach so I need a suggestion. What would your first step be when you have a student on the carpet who plays with shoes, calls out, talks to friends, touches other kids all the time. I speak to her about it and then turn to write on chart paper and she does it again while looking at me.
@OneFABTeacher6 жыл бұрын
I would first have her practice during recess for a bit. Or have a retrace moment and practice as a class and have her model the right way to listen on the carpet. Maybe she needs to practice during some recess time, or a fun time she really enjoys (math tubs, stations) sometimes it’s something beyond our control. ((Hugs))
