I love this! I remember as a student the lights use to bother me so much and I appreciated all the teachers who put christmas lights and lamps in their rooms instead. I know I will be doing this too when I'm a teacher

This is literally my dream classroom!! I can’t stand the fluorescent lights either. I have several lamps around the room and keep my windows open, so I’m hoping that will be enough. I’m a first year teacher, so aspire to have a room like yours!!!

I would have lovedd to have you as a teacher when I was in school! I became homeschooled because of horrible anxiety and I think a cozy classroom like this would have helped me so much.

Wow!! This is awesome! Yes, some people have that sensitivity to fluorescent lights, so this lighting is a great alternative. The lights around the white boards look so pretty! Look at the lights in the mason jar! Ahhh!! 🤗 Looks warm and inviting. Your students will love to be in that space. Beautiful! 😊❤️

Omg I love your classroom! I’m in college now, but I know in my high school a lot of the teachers would bring in lamps and string lights instead of using the overheads and it was always so great. It was nice because it was like a break for your eyes. Those were always the most welcoming classrooms and the ones that students would always want to be in. The desk lamps are genius! I’ve never seen that before but that’s super great for students who want/need a little bit more light! Overall I love the look of your classroom and I would DIE to have been in there when I was in high school!

that lighting is an interesting choice for students on the autism spectrum, the child I work with stims off of light and love to play with lights and likes to be in the dark but stims when he’s in the dark... hopefully it works well for your children
@lakinbassler51186 жыл бұрын
I think if you have problems with lighting (as it being to dark for the students to see) you could purchase those lights that look like a light switch, but the whole thing lights up. You could place them on the desks, so if your students would need more lighting they could turn them on (and not bother you about it being too dark). They might be a problem for the students though if they try to play with them.

Your room is gorgeous! I wish I could do the same but our Fire Marshall would have a massive heart attack. We can have nothing hanging from the ceiling and only a certain percentage of the walls can have paper/posters, etc.

I hope the fire marshal will allow your lights. It looks so cool, but usually nothing can touch the ceiling. It usually has to be 18” from the ceiling. You could just drop them down if they have a problem. I love all your wood like paper on the walls too.

This is totally cool but would never in a million years pass the fire inspection at my school due to all the cords. I don’t use the fluorescent lights either because they really bug kids on the spectrum. Luckily, every classroom in our school has huge windows and I need very little additional lighting, even in winter. But I do have some standing lamps and table lamps, more for the coziness than the actual light. It’s amazing how many students really appreciate not having the fluorescents on! Kids on the spectrum, kids who get migraines or just headaches, and kids who just don’t like bright lighting!

Just a thought, what about using zipties to connect them to the metal pieces of your ceiling? That way if they need to come off, you can just cut them but they're more secure than clothespins?

Yeah, I’m betting in the end I’ll have to take at least some of it down for that very reason, so I’m glad I used clothes pins- easy to just pop off!

Today's Christmas lights aren't really a fire hazard. They require very low voltage and don't get hot, so as long as they aren't damaged they are suuppper safe. So I would definitely push back against that concern if it's brought up

LEAH ESKER Hi!! The white with letters is actually fabric that I got years ago from fabric.com... I did plug surge protectors into the remote outlets since the power being used by the lights is super low 😉

I came to this video a year out from its publishing date. I have watched a number of your videos and was going to ask about differentiation AND then you mentioned you high needs cohort. Did you do any videos about that experience or what you did for those students? I am a Spec Ed teacher so I am always on the hunt for ideas especially around literacy (I am a math science teacher). Also, I have been selected by my district to be part of an assessment working group. I am representing Spec Ed. What I want to do is create resources that support and bolster Gen. Ed. teacher confidence around assessment. Your collaboration for this cohort would be a great experience to learn about.
