I was playing this quest just yesterday and the exact same thing happened to me too. So i ended up running trying to follow him and keep him alive. Got all the way to the very last room, killed the Lakelurks and their King...Then I turn around and Private Halford was dead. He joined his dead buddies after all.

What happened was hugely in part due to Chief Hanlon's antics. He was sending out wrong Intel to the Ranger camps. They were getting supplies they didn't need and none that were. Oxhorn made a video of that quest called "Return to Sender".

That's why I always go independent. NCR and legion are severely flawed in many ways, and the locals clearly hold no love or loyalty to the NCR, as they step all over the little settlements and annex and tax them do death, and nobody wants vegas to become the slave capital of the west, so the legion is hated by all across the other side of the colorado. House is too ambitious with space colonization, yet is heartless towards the people outside of the strip. I wish the developers had more time to develop the game, because no matter how much good i do and no matter how much i do to keep order, freeside always seems to turn archaic, yet despite the king's ending describing how freeside is one of the most stable places in the region, which makes no sense. If bethesda weren't cunts and forced development to end early, the ending wouldn't have been so contradicting.

This was one of the few New Vegas quests that felt underbaked to me, like they didn't have enough time to truly flesh it out. It's missing a lot of the twists and turns most quests in that game have. Feels more like a Fallout 4 quest in that regard. Just go in, shoot a bunch of monsters, get some loot. The fact that you can't talk to anyone about it afterward, like you pointed out, makes it a bit anticlimactic. I usually skip this one on replays.

Mickey Lee Bukowski Might have been one of the last quests they worked on before release. They only had 2 years to make this. Besides, if the most disappointing quest is the same level of quality as fallout 4, then that says a lot about all the other quests and how good they are.

Personally I think if obsidian (remnants of black isle basically) had the time they wanted and werent on a clock from bethesda that it wouldve been released in 2012 or 2013 it wouldve been alot more developed character dialogue with a view on legion life accompanied with a way to play afterwards and see the effects you had on new vegas and a trip to new reno they helped on 1 & 2 so you know these guys got merit

When I first discovered Camp Guardian, I didn't even know about the radio signal. It was eerie, just reading the scattered notes as "Thorn in My Side" (ambient track) played. Obsidian did a great job with building the environment.

The NCR is flawed in MANY ways, however they are by far the best choice to actually take charge of the wastelands, and that says a lot about the other factions walking around, the only faction that would be of a higher standard would be the reformed minutemen.

i encountered a glitch in this area. i cleared out the caves, and exited from the water route. but then i quick traveled up to the top of the mountain and realized the guy wouldnt go away. so i had to go all the way back through the caves and go out the regular way before i could get him to leave. although now that i think about it i could have used the guy as an extra companion if i just decided to keep him

I exited the caves with private halford through the water. He ended up following me and never stopped and said anything. The only way too heal him or give him armor was too sneak it into his inventory and wait a day. I did a test by giving him a bunch of gear and i went on too the sierra Madre quest. He spawned with me at the fountain and fought until he died and i retrieved all his gear.

I just got the rebreather from the Boomers and was looking around underwater and found the caves. So I basically did the quest backwards. I killed every Mirelurk left at the peak. I started to descend when I noticed pages and tried to find them all. I only went back into the cave because I thought more pages were down there. It's funny that The private was like "Oh, we killed them all. Thanks for your help." I didn't even see him the first time.

2 things you didn't address in the video. 1- the soldiers at bravo camp mention the camp and how they haven't radioed in, in a while. 2- If you exit the bottom cave (lake Mead exit) there is a boat about 20 metres out underwater, with a load of casino chips scattered all around it on the lake floor.

i visited ranger station bravo, before looking for camp guardian. the first thing comm officer tilden told me, was that they haven't heard anything from camp guardian in a few days. didn't give me a quest, but this dialog showed me the location on my map.

This seems eerily familiar, oh wait this is what goes on in the Army all the time, you know getting deployed and someone forgot to add an extra 0 to your mag count and you end up with more rifles than magazines. Or those tank parts you needed never got ordered cause PLL wanted to go home so you are stuck out there in the middle of a desert with a messed up hydro pump and end up burning out your main and aux hydro pumps. Good times.

There's a glitch by the fence of lake Mead...I don't remember if it's at the bottom or top..top I think if I remember correctly but if you do the jump right..can get behind the lake fence and get around to all the land behind...it takes you up to the road leading to the Legion's end camp..can't get down to the camp but can snipe a bit.
