First of all, great video. I've never felt such conflicting emotions regarding a death on Degrassi. On one hand, I felt extremely sad and heartbroken for Claude. On the other, I can't help but feel he was selfish for taking his life and sending that note to Caitlin. As someone who has felt similar emotions to Claude's, I still sympathize with him.

Again, though I'm certain he wanted Caitlyn to be pained by his death, it wasn't just Caitlyn. He had a lot of other problems like his home life that made him think suicide was the answer.

@@NotAVampyre right. As someone who has attempted suicide 4x I can say that most people do not kill themselves simply to get back at someone. In my case, I felt trapped by depression and sadness, and a lot of things out of my control and I thought things would never get better. I also thought the people I loved would be better without me, because of the turmoil my mental illness has caused.

What hurts even more is that I reached out and went to group therapy and they all pushed me to isolation and I felt hopeless and helpless. It sucks. I'm ok now and things did get better. This's the second time I listened to this video, and I want to argue that there are cases of people who commit suicide to hurt others. It's not the majority. It's like disregarding suicide bombers. It's like an abusive ex threatening to kill themselves to keep somone around. Only Claude acted on that threat. If that makes sense. Its not his entire reason, but sending that message afterward must be on Claude's mind.

This video has earned you a subscriber. I've definitely been that low, in fact I am now. One of my favourite quotes is from a movie called "Bang Bang, You're Dead." It's based on a play written about school shooters, and the quote is this. "Jenny, I don't mean feeling low like your dog died, I mean where you feel like you have nothing to lose. Where you don't care if you live or die, that kind of depressed." An amazing movie that explores some very dark topics. I suggest you give it a watch.

I feel that Claude was dealing with a lot and he tried to open himself up to Caitlin and she wouldn't take the time to listen. And maybe if she handled things differently and actually listened to what he was trying to tell her and made efforts to help him, it could've possibly prevented his suicide. Because when it comes to people in that situation, they'll open themselves up to certain people and distance themselves from others. And the people who they open themselves up to should listen to what they're saying and it'll make a difference.

I've actually greatly enjoyed Next Class. Too few episodes, but they cram so much thought into that little time. Though it didn't come up often, they did recall Maya and Miles' relationship and Cam. They nodded to the dating history in the last episode of S4. As I explain in My recent Maya video, Cam informs most of what Maya does still. At the beginning of NC, it seems her Cam induced anxiety is gone and she can finally move on, but then the crash brings it all back. The feelings of dooming all of her friends to a life of misery and not being able to save them. Just like how she felt with Cam after she let herself have feelings about his death.

Do you plan on doing a video essay about Father Figure, S3 E1? I think its serious and deserving enough for it. Also how Craig supported Emma in such Platonic way throughout that journey, and provided his counseling of what it means be disappointed of finding who your absent parent is, he could relate bc both Joey and his abusive father were absent to him in different times of his life, and he had parent issues he could relate to Emma's issue with. And then Spike and Snake's reactions in the beginning of the episode compared to later when Shane showed up, became destructive and refused to leave, he didnt really remember why he was there....kinda like how Craig's dad became emotionally detached a split second after beating him in the darkroom, appearing like he didnt know why he was in that spot or what his purpose was. So many parallels between Emma and Craig's perspectives about what a father is. And in later episodes how Craig communicated and talked to Mr Simpson as if they were friends rather than student/teacher communication.

I really do think Claude killed himself to make others feel bad. It was messed up. Where do you watch degrassi videos in good quality? I've watched some of junior high and high, but haven't been able to find much on KZbin. Great video!

I think Claude's main reason was to end his suffering, but the idea of others hurting over it probably comforted him too. It was a welcomed side effect for him. The official Degrassi channel has many of the early seasons posted and the first 5 episodes for the rest. For high quality videos for editing and because I'm a collector, I actually purchased all of the available DVDs. It's hard to locate high quality versions otherwise without sailing the high seas as some seasons are legally available anywhere.

A question I have about the episode is where did Claude get a gun? It seems like something difficult to do, and although he was 18 or 19, he still would need the correct permits in order to get one in Canada at that time (I did a simple google search). Also, how did only Alexa hear the gunshot? She only heard the sound faintly, which makes me question why it wasn't louder (as a gunshot would be). Thoughts?

He probably took one of his parents' gun. That's how a lot of kids acquire them. More probably heard the shot, but thought little of it until it was learned that someone actually shot a gun in the school. Guns aren't quiet, but often sound like firecrackers or maybe could be confused with a locker slamming.

@@vic-lucy I know it’s been three years, but I’ve been in an active shooter situation at my job. I worked in a mall and we had two stores that were being shelled and emptied out. The shots rang out like BANG… BANG-BANG-BANG.. BANG-BANG, BANG-BANG The first gunshot sounded like someone dropped a shelving unit in one of those neighboring stores. If it weren’t for people running/screaming and the next seven shots, we honestly probably would’ve kept going on with our day. And a suicide is obviously very different from an active shooting, but it’s one shot versus multiples. One shot will kinda always sound like something else. The first (or only) one, you kinda want to continue on with what you’re doing. The second one, you know a shooting is happening.

Good question. Someone, a principal or other staff, would gather all the students together and announce the death. I can imagine some people being pissed off that time is being devoted to talking about the death of a horrible person who made their lives miserable. Some would be glad the mean person is dead, and wanna move on, enjoying the fact that their tormentor is gone.

Glad you're aware of my commentor rule ^^ I don't really agree much with main character deliniations in Degrassi, but I'll still answer your questions. I think Alli is my favourite best friend. I very much enjoyed her growth from a sort of Manny wannabe to who she really is. Allowing her skills and personality to shine while eventually reaching the popularity that she desired and getting to express her sense of fashion. She stumbled a ton, but was very interesting to watch. Oddly enough, Clare is my favourite "main girl." Most of her storries are personally relatable, especially in her early days being the "pure" "goody two shoes" of the group. Though many found her annoying, like Maya, I find her annoying parts tell really interesting storries. Though she'd rather not admit it, she's a hormone filled teen girl bound to make mistakes. Also helps that I love the Eclare Saga.

Eli's just doesn't fit with Claire actually no one does if you notice all Claire's boyfriends challenge her belief as a good girl and i didn't like how she tried so hard to be with Eli. Like Drew's the only one who rarely challenged her as a character other than the pregnancy and it was cause they had good chemistry and Claire and Drew have been through enough shit to click as a couple.

I don't think Eli prompted a change to her good girl image. Her rebellion in season 10 completely stemmed from herself and her inability to deal with her parents' inevitable separation. Even he felt she'd gone too far.

Claude is one of my favorite characters, and it makes me sad how Caitlin said he deserved it. He wasn't perfect: he was a bit of a poser and didn't treat Caitlin very well, even in death. That being said, it doesn't mean he deserved to suffer and die the way he did. I've been suicidal since I was 10, so I guess I'm biased, but the fandom's overall hatred toward Claude is upsetting. I wish he had been given an opportunity to grow more as a character.

Just rewatched it. So, the line is taken out of context. Caitlin didn't say he deserved to die. She said he deserves her anger. She said it because Claude I part blamed her for what happened with his very passive aggressive note saying that he "forgives her for how she treated him". And it's very obvious that's why she was angry. Before that note, Caitlin was circling the drain about how she maybe could've stopped him if she just listened and didnt tell Claude to leave her alone. But then afterwards, the note made Caitlin feel like Claude meant to punish her, and so she was trying to fight feeling sorry for him or being affected by his death. She was saying he deserves her harshness because he seemingly wanted to hurt Caitlin with his death.

Do you feel bad that Claude Tanner committed suicide? For me, not the least bit. In fact, I'm totally ecstatic and overjoyed over the fact that this despicable character killed himself. When I saw the episode, I was shocked and confused why the others felt bad. I felt that they should celebrate over his death. If Claude is a rather disliked person if not downright an despicable person, then why should everybody feel bad when he committed suicide? Shouldn't everyone feel ecstatic and overjoyed given the fact that he was nothing but a menace to society that the world could do without, and everyone should celebrate over his death as he won't bother anybody anymore? If Claude wanted to punish himself by killing himself, then so be it and everybody should be totally fine about that praise and commend his actions. In the Wizard of Oz, after the two wicked witches were killed the other characters celebrated by singing Ding Dong the Wicked Witch is Dead! So likewise, when wicked Claude died the other characters should have also celebrated by singing DING DONG THE WICKED DICK IS DEAD! Or perhaps.....maybe they felt bad because they wanted to kill Claude themselves? LOL
