@ClausKellerman THANK YOU! i am the player in the second battle of this video. i have recently added the third tier iii mobility improvement package. i really have not found anything that i like to fit in the third slot yet. and the reasons for the large consumables is for the buffs that they provide like the -5% for stun and +15% for crew protection i don't think i really need the fire extinguisher, and the 10% to repair speed could be helpful if i get tracked :) this battle was from 3-5-24

It depends. When I have a free line of fire on a target rich environment I usually stick to that spot, only moving slightly between shots to avoid counter battery. In other cases I adapt to how the battle is evolving; moving to other locations to have a better line of fire or following my team when they make a push.

When I play SPG's(normally for critical hits missions), the moment I fire, I come out of sniper mode and press the W to relocate. This does three things; 1. It protects from counter battery fire and keeps light tanks from knowing where to go for a thunder run. 2. It keeps players who are following my shot trajectories from knowing where to get cover. 3. It keeps me actively problem solving for better angles.

I haven't played in a couple years, but when I did play SPG I absolutely moved. I'd also watch common SPG spots on the other side if I had no reasonable targets and see if I can't spot a cheeky tree fall or fence break. Hell, the clan I joined I was invited because I blind one-shot a guy in a dicker max on mountain pass after he drove over a tree at the beginning of the game. Shout out to to that guy for being impressed rather than salty!

When I played SPG's I moved if there was an absence of targets. However, there are legitimate reasons for not moving, first, view range is poor and moving can get you spotted, especially in the higher tiers where spotting range is good for a lot of vehicles. Second, you can place yourself in a worse position, because a lot of vehicles are fast and move about the battlefield, so by the time you lumber to a new position with your old crate, you find you still don't have targets!
@dandel3516 ай бұрын
As a former SPG player staying alive involves moving after every shot to counter your enemy SPG finding you from your muzzle blast. But now they've dumbed the game down that much that arty spotting is simple since the firing of the gun A tells the enemy they've been targeted, B gives off a huge tracer when you fire (giving away your position) and finally nerfing the damage from HE blast so much you need to rely on this stupid fucking stun mechanic. That player in the first match should have been doing 1000hp minimum with a direct hit. As you can tell I haven't played in good while as the game has really degenerated into a pathetic version of it's former self. Your reload is so slow and accuracy so bad that the reward for a good shot should be a massive amount of damage. Anyway I've had my rant. I'm just waiting to see what Premium Ammo Avoider does next. He's more entertaining to watch than the rest of this fucking shit show game. Cheers Claus , keep calling out the bullshit as you see it mate!

I play Arty, and I move around a bit. Trying to actually hit a target with Arty is an interesting mental game, I have to be thinking the whole time about angles, obstacles, and where the enemy will be moving.
@jeffms50686 ай бұрын
Hey Claus, my use of SPGs is almost nonexistent, but my observation of them shows that they play more like towed arty than SPGs. And that's strange because even at lower tiers, which presumably represent an early time in history when most arty was towed, WG chose to make ALL arty self-propelled. Some of the most remarkable modern arty IRL are highly mobile, like the French CAESAR and the Swedish ARCHER systems (the ARCHER can fire 3 rounds and depart before the first round has landed), both 155mm guns. I'm pretty sure no one wants that kind of arty firepower in WoT, but at least SPG players have the mobility if they only use it.

I haven't played SPGs in a long time but when I did, I moved after every shot. My SPG WR is way better than my other tanks. Up near 60%. You get counter battery shot by a good enemy SPG if you don't move and vise versa for the enemy SPGs. If nobody is spotted to shoot at, look for the tracers of your counterparts and blind shoot them. $.02

Thanks Claus. I play occasional SPG, and I move after every shot, at least to avoid counter-battery, then watch out for if a flank is falling and be prepared to move to the better protected flank, at least if I can see that far enough in advance to have an escape route. Moving for angles is more map and situation specific. Usually moving side to side creates better angles one side of buildings and worse angles the other side of buildings, so it depends on where the enemies are and how much they're moving around.
@johnathansaegal31566 ай бұрын
I am predominantly an SPG player. It depends on the map, but I mostly look at the minimap and nothing else. I watch the direction the enemy is moving and where my team is and position my SPG accordingly. BUT, it does depend on the map. Some maps you can pretty much hit anywhere (camp in a bushka-type maps). This map, he started in a good position, but while reloading I would be moving to get around those pillboxes with my shells. City maps, I'm rolling all over the map.

Love playing Arty as so many muppets who fight without thinking of being arty safe. Also love the idiots that knock down trees at the start, so will blind fire those spots and get hits. I play SPG to do missions when needed, so maybe two or three times per session depending. I play the Lefh and the M53/55 as needed. The Lefh I only move depending on the gameflow, but usually sit in a spot until I don't have shots and then move. The M53/55 I will sit in primary spot until I don't have shots, then check for Arty tracers to counter battery and then move to get different angle or if I hear incoming counter-battery. So I guess I play arty 10 to 15% of time and I move about half the time during those sessions. Sometimes you just need a chill game where you eat your food without worry. My wife plays about 25% of her games in Arty and rarely moves. I am usually her spotter, so I can insure she is protected on at least one flank.

When I play SPGs it always depends on, the the SPG and the map, to how much I move. For example with the GW tiger not very much if at all. It's just way too slow. maps like Himmelsdorf,(which I've excluded) have little places to go and your angles are mostly bocked by buildings. Shots going off target is a thing that has increased. If 4 dots of the dispersion circle touch anything. Buildings, pill boxes or, a big rock, that is most probably where it goes/hits. Maybe it's tied in with the non pay effects WG has incorporated.

I play quite a bit of artillery... I move a lot, after each shot as minimum to avoid counter battery since the introduction of the quite visible tracer tails... As for strategic movement for better angles or to support my teammates... it depends on the map and matchup. if we are on a corridor map with lots of heavies, I set up in a good position to support the main fight and move around locally to avoid the incoming shells... if we are on a wide open map with lots of lights and mediums then off we go moving as the fight progresses. With the artillery nerf I unloaded the german tier 8 thru 10, just to slow and inaccurate... but that GW Panther is sweet! I run a turbo charger to make it a bit quicker and it is deadly accurate... helps with a 5 skill crew to boot... yes I play artillery...

While you were right in the second game that if he moved he would have a better angle on a couple of enemies, but you have to think about the other enemies, and other potential shots as the game progresses. I think that he wasn't too bad where he was because he could still hit shots down some of the corridors in the city. If he moved he would lose those angles.

Yes, it is good to change positions when you need to. But, there are many games where there are so many targets it doesn't matter. Then there are games where some fast light tanks sneaks in and kills before you get a second shot anyway :) All depends on the SPG. The US ones are fast enough to move around a lot. With the M44 it reloads fast enough you don't have much time between shots. If you move then you might not get to make the next shot. Remember that moving means you still have to aim again, which also takes a while in SPG's. The US higher tier are slower loading so moving is 'easier'. FWIW, the M44 is fast enough to be a 'face blaster' in some urban terrain. Find a lone enemy with half hit points gone, run in and smack them. Then run like hell :) The FV304 is the ultimate in close support. Moves faster than many mediums. Course it has to move fast cause the range is only 500m and it is a small gun, so death by a thousand cuts :) The higher tier Russian SPG's are pigs, and the reload is really slow. Also big as a house so anytime you move it makes a big target. I still use my SU14, lower tier with a huge gun, but, it stays in one place most of the game.

I play a lot of arty, especially when the match making sucks. I mostly play T9 and T10 mobile SPG's and I move around a lot, including after every shot. I carry the large repair and first aid kits and auto fire extinguisher mostly for counter battery protection. The aiming mechanics have been manipulated by WOT for the worse. If I am not fully aimed the round lands the farthest away from what I am aiming at in the aim circle. On slopes the round lands either at the front or rear of the aim circle, whichever is the farthest away from what I am aiming at. All that being said I don't play WOT that much anymore, only enough to do the 3 daily missions (today 2 games). The problems with the game, match making, power creep and other issues make it not worth spending a lot of time on. It's supposed to be a form of entertainment not a source of frustration. I will however continue to watch Claus's every day, I look forward to the stimulating conversation and topics.

@plektosgaming6 ай бұрын
Statistically, SPGs do less damage per tier than a normal tank. There are a few exceptions, like the couple of premium SPGs, but getting into the top 3 or even top 5 in a game is fairly uncommon. While any muppet can run around in an IS-7 and get 2K damage and at least one kill. As such, playing a SPG actually is a net loss in terms of firepower for your team and makes it more likely that the game ends quickly.
@Vic-Bee6 ай бұрын
Some SPGs hit on the concave side of the oval (it's never a circle) while others hit on the convex side. Regardless, arties have become notoriously inaccurate after so many nerfs. I sold all arties that take more than 30 sec to reload, except for the French T10 autoloader, because between the loading time and lack of accuracy you're lucky getting 2k dmg in a battle. The only ones I have left are the LeFH, the 261 and the French autoloader.
