Clawful: Masters of the Universe MOTU vintage Mattel action figure 1984 review

Clawful? We Had That! When the first wave of Masters of the Universe figures came out in 1982, Mattel knew they had a hit on their hands. By the time the 3rd wave came out in 1984, Mattel had time to put together 12 new figures inculding the crab-themed character: Clawful! We'll take a look at the history of the figure as well as his appearances in the mini-comic books, and in the cartoon. What do you think about this lumbering lobster? I never had Clawful as a kid. In 1984 I was starting to get too old for action figure. I remember picking up Battle Armor He-Man, and later picking up Webstor, who ended up being my last childhood purchase of Masters of the Universe. Like a lot of us, I started recollecting my childhood favorites as an adult, and got several figures missing from my childhood, including the mighty Clawful. Love your channel, thank you for all the great content, and wonderful memories.

Thank you! I never had Clawful as a kid either. There are so many figures that I missed at the time. I'm glad I've been able to pick up some of them as an adult!

This was one of my favourite figures and characters, and I even had a pet hermit crab who I named Clawful. I had the "Skeletor Legs" version of the figure, and always thought of it as lacking, compared to the "Buzz-Off Legs" version.

I had Clawful and he was definitely one of my favorites. In my youthful head canon he was more of an animalistic man-beast than a reasoning being and was the muscle of a little splinter group of villains that was led by Kobra Kahn & Webstor.

I had Clawful, as well. I remember that my aunt sent him to me for my birthday. I was disappointed to see that his appearance was so different when he appeared in the cartoon. I still think the actual figure's design is much better than what Filmation did.

I've always loved Clawful. Interesting story about when I got him. We had been to White Water in Marietta GA a few days earlier and I had a sunburn. We went to Riverbend Mall in Rome, GA and my parents were on one end and I was on the other. I found Clawful at a store and didn't have the money to get him. So, I had to run to the other end of the mall and find my parents to get the money. My back started itching from the sunburn I had gotten a few days before, I suppose because of the spike in adrenaline I experienced from being so excited about finding Clawful. Even after we got home, it continued to itch for about two hours. That's the last time I ever went to White Water.

Ah, the Marietta White Water! I don't remember ever getting a sunburn there, but I do remember going. I also remember the water slides at Stone Mountain!

Clawful appeared in some of the various MOTU books published by Golden in the '80s. I believe Clawful's Filmation appearance is in part due to Filmation using a very early concept design as happened with a few other characters (Tung Lashor, notably) before he got the more recognizable redesign (though, that said, I do feel you're correct regarding leaving both claws the same size)

Yes it was. 1984 was the year they started using that type of armor on several of the figures.

Filmation definitely changed his look!
