Tuning is gCGCD#. Open C minor. Like Double C, but the 1 string tuned a half step / semitone higher.

Loving this, I might finally be grabbing the technique. Thank you. My old open back cheap banjo loves the tuning too. Look forward to more. Sher from New Zealand

Yes, it's an old tubaphone pot (1920s) with a new 5 string neck built here in the UK. Thanks again!

Nice spare syncopation in that technique. Like the uppicking pattern too

I used to do the up-picking better, just lost the pattern in my fingers......

Yes. Use it or lose it! I make myself play my tenor though. I like to keep that ticking along.

Really cool tuning, especially cuz u dont have to mess with ur banjo too much when u always play in double C . I have two banjos now, one for Open G tuning and one for Open C cuz tuning back and forth between those on my banjo wasnt making my banjo very happy

Double C mot open C

That's a good plan! There are lots of tunings!

I believe that chord you were asking about at the end is an Ab chord- or if you include the G in the drone string, an Abmaj7 chord. Notes are Ab, Eb, C. You’re playing it here with the Eb on bottom, so technically it’d be the Abmaj7 over Eb inversion. (Abmaj7/Eb)

Thanks Adam. This tuning does lots for me, I tune it down a bit to sing, but it's really nice. Thanks for the comment!

@@cerddoriaethfynyddig Yeah, honestly I almost always have to tune down to properly sing, the various "standard" tunings on banjo don't typically suit my voice very well. In the key of Cm (for that standard tuning range), that Ab chord is the VI chord in the key. All the notes are diatonic to Cm, even the G that makes it an Abmaj7 chord. So that's what you're playing in the minor key here, the VImaj7 chord. If you're tuning down a whole step, the chord would be a Gbmaj7, 2 whole steps, it'd be an Emaj7, and so on.

Now, Open C minor "tuning" means that when u strum without fretting its an open C minor chord right? Never clicked with me until now haha
