I'd camp, but only in a camper and not in a tent. With an axe or gun under my pillow. I live in Germany and there used to be plenty bears and wolves here. The wolves have returned now and established themselves again. But to be honest, I'd rather the bears stay away. A bear will chew its way into your house or even your car if it really is determined to get to that cookie jar. And that's going to get him shot down if the government deems it a "problem bear". We had such a bear in 2006, his name was Bruno. Bruno was not afraid of people for some reason and kept going right up to people's houses killing their livestock/pets. Unfortunately that's what got him killed, as they shot him down.

The problem is that even with shows that make them seem like vicious killers, you still have people like that one moron who was trying to follow the ranger into the woods to actively look for the bear. That's the kind of stuff that ends up with bears being a "vicious killer". You may have been lucky enough to come across mostly docile ones but many others have not. Pretending that they aren't dangerous animals who sometimes attack simply because they feel like it- which they sometimes do- because you think it makes them look bad is irresponsible and kind of ridiculous, since the bears really don't care what we think of them.

Why are people afraid of bears? I've seen enough Disney films to know that, if you encounter a bear in the wild, you just start singing and dancing and eventually the bear will join in. Of course, it helps if there's musical accompaniment. Either a banjo or squeeze box would be fine, but almost anything will do. I ran into a mountain lion on a hike once, and as it charged, I began whistling the guitar solo to "Freebird." It immediately stopped its charge and joined in, banging on the backs of two turtles like they were conga drums. Soon the entire forest transformed into an enormous jam festival, complete with arts and crafts and microbrew tents. I managed to slip out in the chaos.

I was talking to my brother while looking at the ground and suddenly realized that no one was with me. I stopped and looked back. The whole group was standing about 150 feet back. I walked back to ask why they were just standing there. By brother turned me around and pointed at a bear that I had walked past twice. It wasn't very big - maybe 5 or 6 feet tall. It is a bear hunting dog. No black bears in Finland either. It is a juvenile brown bear that just happens to be darker colour.

@@lindahill7932 apperently, Bear spray is an aphrodisiac to Squirrels so, would be the absolutely wrong thing to do to spray the little bastard. Now, not only is he angry, but he's horny as well. Not a good combination I can tell you.

I had a young brown bear come at me and a buddy while we were fishing. This one was stealthy and was watching us the whole time. While I was tying my fishing line, it started charging at us as if it appeared outta thin air. Had to slowly back off as it followed us to the road, I'll never forget that moment. I had a real good and close look at the beast. Too bad my phone was at 1% lol my dumb ass would've started recording

#7 why is it "unthinkable" to meet a bear in bear territory ?
@geometricart78513 жыл бұрын
obviously not "unthinkable" but if you stay on the trails generally they will steer clear unless the trails runs across a path to water.

I’ve been that close to a large black bear while hiking alone 4 miles up a mountain trail. It didn’t notice me, so I stomped me feet loudly before I passed and thankfully it darted away. Then I darted in opposite direction, heart racing.
