Clay Cook and John should do a reunion. Better yet a collarabotive album. It's high time... the world recognize Clay's talent as well. John Mayer will always be the greatest but it would be nice to share the stage with an old pal.

Hi Clay. I'm your Dad's brother from another mother. He and l were roommates in the early 70s when he wore his hair much like yours. He had a moustache and not a full beard. Anyway l never saw you two look so much alike as you do in this performance. After seeing that l looked up other videos and realized just how much you look like he did when he was your age. Keep up the good work. It's always good to see your performances either solo or with The ZBB. The best to you and your family, Gary

I love it when musicians play an interlude before a song, where you're not sure what they're about to play next.

I wish I could have been in Duluth, Georgia in 1998 and seen a young Clay Cook and John Mayer writing this song together. Obviously Clay wanted to strip it down and John wanted to take it to the top of the charts, which he eventually did do but without Clay. I love both versions.

I think alot of what happened, is the producer of John's Debut studio album worked his magic on it. I love both versions, John's and Clay's. But if you listen to the demo version of No Such Thing, off John's EP Inside Wants Out. You can hear how John had it before it got into the hands of Columbia. Then John Alagía comes along and turns it into a radio smash. I love all 3 versions in fact. John Alagia also produced albums for The Dave Matthew's Band. Including the album Crash. So you can really see the similarities in production style.

It can’t get any better than Clay Cook. He comes from top stock.

So today I found out most of my favorite John Mayer songs were co written with Clay ... The first thing I noticed about this song was the cool 70s chord changes... now I gues that is "A Clay Thing" and thats why i John changed drastically on album 2 ... Clay rules!

This version for me absolutely
@mragunathan16273 жыл бұрын
goes to show how genius the lyrics are. This is a more reflective, poignant version. I daresay more appropriate for the lyrics, rather than John's radio hit oriented version.
@lordfarquaad6189 Жыл бұрын
@@mragunathan1627 I disagree. John's version gives a sort of screw you message, I am going to find my own path. This version feels like someone reflecting about how they believed they were going to change the world and defy all odds but didn't. I am not knocking Clay's career. Both versions are equally appropriate for the lyrics.

Did Clay Cook or Mayer wrote this. And if they co wrote it, how could just Mayer have gotten credit?
@EOPLive3 жыл бұрын
Co-write. They both get credit as far as publishing rights go, but Mayer is the one who recorded it and often that's who will get public credit.

theres a sense of melancholy and "what if" to this song and this man in general, i cant help but think what if it was him and not John who went on to become the star, would john have ended up like this?

there are guys like Clay Cook,Glen Hansard, Warren Hayes and Matthew Kahler that I ask myself... why do they work their arses off to make it "BIG" while lesser talented pop megastars like JB, BS, TS and Adele buy Teslas and Malibu beach houses? Life aint fair

John tried screwing Clay over! Unreal! Clay wrote all of John’s big hits most of the songs on John’s first three albums and Clay took the high road and could of buried John’s career as a fraud! And you wonder why musicians in Nashville hate Mayer. Clay is beloved there!
@roderickbalt8993 Жыл бұрын
Are you sure that's how it went or are you just speculating here, because nothing points to John not being able to write his won songs I don't know how many albums later. By the way, most guys don't have anything on John because no matter how well they can sing or play they aren't originals, John is.
