@@henrik1743 I also hate clay!! Have been playing 30+ years very decent competitive level but never ever got used to the red dirt everywhere and the fact that you have to ‘slide before the hit’ is completely annoying. Rublev has one of the best points here, and even though I know his native language isn’t English. He eloquently explains his point of view, it’s very difficult to play the ball and call the mark, I play enough to know when the ball gets near the lines it can do funny things especially hard court, these challenges are set up to be fair but fair is not really the player calling their own ball….I think every player should be allowed to contact a ball they feel “may” have been out….as long as they stop play immediately after to challenge, if your going to have the players initiate the challenge this is the way it should be.
@Vi5hnujan3 жыл бұрын

I dont get what umpires are talking about when they say you need to stop and call to check. Have they ever played tennis ? When you are focused on the shot you can only think and focus on that then you see out and just try to stop, but you still always hit the shot because thats a natural reaction. Its kinda stupid in some situations when they say "you need to stop right after the ball hits" How can you physically do that ???

You gotta understand Novak, the ref obviously wants to go home, so he just letting them play on that flooded court risking an injury. He is known for his hot temper, but at least he apologized.
@aleksajaksic62303 жыл бұрын
Two things very wrong with this comment. One: how is the umpire making them play on a flooded court which, like you said, could potentially injure the players, justified by “he wants to go home?” And two: how is Novak known for his hot temper? Sure he’s spiked a few racquets, but there are very few players who have not done the same. I would understand if you said Nick Kyrgios is known for his hot temper or Daniil Medvedev, but not Djokovic. He’s at the very least one of the kindest people on the tour. He’s probably known for being the best defensive player ever and having the best backhand ever, and soon enough the GOAT, but certainly not hot tempered. So there is nothing Novak should understand, but I think you need to understand that the umpire cannot be justified to keep them playing because he wants to go home, and that Novak is known for friendliness and kindness if it can’t be something on court, not being hot tempered.

I don't get why Medvedev acts like that. It is not like he does not know how to play on clay. I mean he reached the Monte Carlo semis in 2019 and by beating Tsitsipas and Djokovic en route. Then he reached the Barcelona final which he lost to Thiem. Okey, afterwards he was not that successful anymore but I think it is more because everybody said that he is "bad" on clay so he kind of internalized that thought and expressed it so often during Madrid and Rome this year. But as we see now, he reached the 4th round of RG. I did not understand why he was hating on clay so much as he can play pretty well. Anyone another thought on that?
@ninaddesai19043 жыл бұрын
I felt exactly the same as u. Medvedev also leaded 3-0 against thiem in the barcelona final and then just lost it but his flat and low balls are very effective and different so he can get wins.
