A story about this and it’s impact. This was from the first episode and it was the first sketch of the episode. So this is the sketch that introduced Chapelles Show to the country. I was in high school. We all watched it that night and when we got to school the next day things were different. It literally changed the cultural landscape overnight. Memes weren’t around then like now but it was the same thing. Everything from that show got repeated and said at school from day one. It truly made a cultural mark from day one. It was crazy to see. Also, Chapelle isn’t the only brain child. Neal Brennan co created the show and actually came up with a lot, if not most of the sketch ideas. He’s the one who said “show us your face” and “come one brother” and his head exploded. Him and Dave were best friends and created the show together.
@djjazzyjeff12323 жыл бұрын
I thought Daz was going to pop at the end there lol. That was my exact reaction to this sketch too the first time. The whole thing is worth it just for that line at the very end. Absolutely hilarious stuff. The thing about Chappelle's Show is that it could've only thrived as well as it did at the time, which was early 2000s, back when people weren't so damn sensitive. And thrive it did.

Key and Peele first episode aired in 2012. The last Chappelle Show aired in 2006. He was never fired. The first two years of his show didn't pay him a lot, but the exposure was the reward. The show exploded. It was a sensation from the first episode (which ended with the Clayton Bigsby sketch). The DVD sales were record setting, and Comedy Central offered a multi-year contract with DVD sales percentages that paid Chappelle $50! Million. A few sketches were shot and the season was set to start when Chappelle walked away from the show. His return to the spotlight took ten years.
